Re: Baños Turkos

Has anyone ever gone to one? What kind of service can I expect? i've been to then several times with my brother in law. what service(s) are you looking for. they are very reasonably priced, until you get a massage. Full service. Was the massage good? Or did they just go thru the motions? profession...

Re: Restrooms

If you are able to find a public restroom there is usually no t.p. and no toilet seat. Why is that? To add insult to injury there is usually someone with their hand out expecting some sort of payment. What is the usual amount to be tendered to this individual? I always wonder, does he work for the ...

Alan, GREAT ARTICLE; thanks. For my situation, WU is the clear winner. I am a bit nervous about collecting $20,000 from their office & then hustling to my bank to deposit. Any suggestions? Thanks again. get a money belt or fanny pack and pull your shirt over it. it's what i did when i to...

Re: Where, how and when to pay visa overstay fine at Lima airport

So the fee is still US$ 1 per day you overstayed? Any idea if and / or when the new immigration law goes into effect? Or is it completely of the table? i flew out of Lima on Nov. 17th. and overstayed by 50 days due to personal reasons. paid $50 usd. can't tell you about the new law (if and when) it...

Re: How do I have a property appraised in Lima? (Miraflores)

Good point. I had an evaluator quote a property for 35% less than it eventually sold for, but I don't think it was for dishonesty, rather ignorance. The property has some unique characteristics that the evaluator did not want to consider, even though I pointed them out. Caliguy is right: do some du...

Re: How do I have a property appraised in Lima? (Miraflores)

How can I have a property appraised in Miraflores? My wife and I purchased an apartment in Miraflores about 5 years ago. We are in the process of getting divorced and need to have it appraised. She wants to hold on to it, which is fine with me (she is Peruvian, I am not). For a fair division of ass...

That would be illegal. Weed, including medicinal is illegal in Peru.

doesn't mean you can't get it.

In your case you bought it for US$ 100.000 so there is no fictious 'buying' price, but just the actual buying price ..
So in your case , if you sell for US$ 400.000 you have US$ 300.000 profit, and pay US$90.000 taxes.

wow! thanks again fanning. :D

Re: Inheritance Law in Peru

I think if it is your primary residence you don't pay the impuesto, but I am not sure of that, and you need to actually live there. If you are liable for the impuesto and acquired it after 2002 or 2004 the 'autovalue' is your 'buying' price, corrected by a table on the ministry of economy. http://w...

Re: need suggestions on stage iv pain management

My friend passed two years ago (in Lima) and he had a morphine drip that worked well for pain. The problem is Morphine is the final stop gap. The body slowly becomes immune to it and the doses have to be increased to subdue the pain. Finally to the point of the Morphine becoming the killer. and, th...

i'm sure all of us who have been here for any length of time have seen prices continually creep up. and on top of that, most items are sold in small packages, so you're always running to the store to buy another small package of the same product. although it doesn't affect me financially, it just so...
