Re: Magdalena Del Mar

Your impression of Peru is honest, but at the same time ... May I disagree ? No such crime and traffic in the streets of Magdalena , but I highly respect your words I hope that next time you come here, could eventually see it all with different eyes.. BTW, I made a search in urbania.pe about your p...

Re: Magdalena Del Mar

For example it doesn't matter where in Magdalana it is I'd still never pay $90'000 to live there! How much would you pay ? Well considering what Magdelana is like, traffic problems, not always the tidiest of places for most of the area, problems in areas with crime, the building quality of those ap...

Re: Magdalena Del Mar

Are you assuming with a 100% of certainty that there is no Real State Bargains in Peru ? :D Of course there will be some but I doubt there will be many. I've spent enough time in Peru to know plenty about the renting and housing prices to not be very impressed. For example it doesn't matter where i...

Re: Magdalena Del Mar

Welcome to our forum! Like most of Lima's traditional barrios, Magdalena is in transition. Old family homes built in the 30's 40's and 50's are being razed to make way for 7 to 10 story apartment buildings. It's subjective of course, but I think it's a nice area with areas that maintain a real neig...

Re: Magdalena Del Mar

Billy Magdelana has some really nice parts to it, usually along the coast and yes there is some dangerous parts but it's like that everywhere in Lima. The coastal areas are developing fast in most suburbs so as you say in 30 years time it could be a totally different place and if you have lived in L...

As Mr Steak says Peru isn't even on the list. These sites are usually just easy click bait with little basis in fact. Seriously Wales and Scotland are on the list, how researched can it be!!! I would agree with several of the top ones being correct however, French, Italian, Mexican, Thai and Indian ...

Re: Reasonable real estate?

If you do have rental property back home better have a care taker to handle things. There's always the risk of renting to some deadbeats or squatters that will trash the place. Usually renting the property out through an agency is the best option as they will handle almost every aspect of it, inclu...

Re: Reasonable real estate?

I just wouldn't buy in Peru at all. The boats already gone on this one and if you are wanting to buy property then it really should have been done before 2010. I would put some serious thought into just how much money you could lose if you plough half of your life savings into buying a house in Peru...

It's pretty interesting how France and Italy aren't all that expensive compared to some of the other locations.

You'd have thought Spain and Greece would have been on as you can easily live more cheaply in those two compared to France and Italy.

One problem I find is you go to the market and the whole place smells kind of bad, so it can be difficult to tell if a chicken smells bad on site. It also feels really awkward trying to smell people's meat before buying it haha. Look for yellow or greying of colour in the meat. Raw chicken should b...

I really wouldn't trust the guy and he'll just be using you. He's probably just using you for his next adventure and...

Re: Where to live in Peru for 6 Months with family?

At least in Lima, I do not think you will find what you are looking for. Any place near the beach that is also safe and convenient and near a school is going to be very expensive. I agree that Arequipa is very nice, and you may want to look there. In general I'd say that coming to Peru to live for ...

Yeah it's exactly the same everywhere, if you want the best food you get fresh ingredients. We still have the fish mongers and butchers with fresh meat daily and all restaurants try to stock fresh ingredients but that's not the point. The point is it doesn't matter how fresh something is, if it's no...

You should not be leaving chicken out unrefrigerated for long periods of time. Once the chicken has been killed and butchered it should refrigerated as soon as possible and any chicken bought from any shop should be taken home and refrigerated as soon as possible. Re: Do Expat (or Travelers) like Salsa de Aji (chilli pepper sauce) ?

Usually with steak it involves having to go to an expensive restaurant but those restaurants make the best dips as well. I've never been overly impressed beef from the markets, same goes for potatos. Salsa Criolla is another great sauce. It's almost exactly the same as one of the Indian dips you get...

Re: Do Expat (or Travelers) like Salsa de Aji (chilli pepper sauce) ?

Totally love the stuff, it's brilliant!. I've not always been the biggest fan of Peruvian foods as I thought it could be really bland and boring at times (Lomo Saltado, arroz con pollo, huancaina based dishes, almost any other stewed dish with boiled potatos or white rice). I think you'll be hard pr...

Probably a good idea to bring your receipts for all this stuff. From what I have been told customs will charge you for what they think it's worth if they do decide to tax you and they could estimate it at an extremely high price. At least if you have your receipts you have proof of what it costs, bu...

Also it would be an income for life. I'm startin...

I don't have kids but you should look into some of the quieter neighbourhoods in San Borja, Surco, San Isidro and La Molina. They can be very family orientated, with lots of nice parks and schools nearby. They are usually extremely safe and the areas with parks tend to be a block or two away from th...
