Re: Beach Property

I've never heard of such a thing, and frankly I wouldn't trust using one. Everything in Peru is through contacts, and this includes renting beach houses. At my beach, for example, the renters need to get signatures from at least three owners at the beach to be allowed to rent. Unless the renter happ...

Re: Transferring $ from US to Peru

Thanks for the info, Adrian. I'll make sure my wife double-checks the rates before we do our monthly transfer next week.

The last transfer we did was on July 31st for around $9K or so, and the fee from BCP was $24.

Re: Is there anyone interested in cosplay?

I began to cosplay around five years ago.I am very interested in marvel's film ,such as Spider man and Joker. Luck for me, I meet some friends who have the same idea with me.It is a great fun to make costumes together and share experience. Sometimes, even host parties in our neighborhood. Although t...

Re: Wire transfer from Peru to the U.S.

I have a premium Chase account which may have slightly cheaper wire fees. I always transfer about $9k each time. The fee is the same regardless, so might as well go for a large amount.

Nothing special about my BCP account though, so no idea why my fee is less than yours.

Wire transfer fee from Chase in the US is $40, at least it is for me. The fee to receive the wire at BCP in Peru is $20.

Good place to buy car battery

It turned out the both of my cars had their batteries die within the same week recently, so I was in the market to replace them. The batteries, not the cars. I called around to various battery stores thinking that a place that specializes in battery is likely to have the best price. One place that I...

My kids are at Roosevelt so I can try to answer any specific questions you might have. Generally speaking, from what I have seen and heard Roosevelt is more flexible and requires significant family involvement, whereas Marckam is more strict and organized with less family involvement required. Roose...

Re: Bringing expensive gifts to Peru

You're allowed to bring whatever personal jewelry you want (I know people who fly in and out of Peru with well over $50K of jewelry on them), but for safe keeping I'd put it all in your coat pocket. They don't search coat pockets anyway, so even if they were to claim that it isn't your personal jewe...

Re: Where to live in Peru for 6 Months with family?

At least in Lima, I do not think you will find what you are looking for. Any place near the beach that is also safe and convenient and near a school is going to be very expensive. I agree that Arequipa is very nice, and you may want to look there. In general I'd say that coming to Peru to live for a...

There still doesn't seem to be any proof that he himself did anything illegal or even immoral. Re: Filing US taxes from Peru

You don't need a W-2 to declare income. It sounds like the Foreign Income Exclusion will apply. You'll have to report the income but will not have to pay taxes on it because you presumably already paid tax in Peru. My main suggestion is that you hire an accountant familiar with filing US taxes inste...

Bringing popcorn & soda to movie theater

I recently heard that there was some lawsuit that led Indecopi to make a new law that allows you to bring your own popcorn and soda into movie theaters. I guess the thought was that movie theaters are price gouging on the items they sell. Which of course is true, but it is also where movie theaters ...

Being from the US, you might want to consider the Colegio Roosevelt Winter Camp: http://blog.amersol.edu.pe/winter_camp/ That's a way to keep your boys occupied and perhaps meet some friends. With Europe being about 9000km away from Lima, that's slightly further than the maximum range of VDSL. As soon as a telecom in Peru starts offering VDSL you get back to me and let us know how smart you are to recommend DSL. As I already said, I doubt you can currently find a telecom in Peru that eve...

Re: Decent Internet in Lima near La Molina?

It is futile to expect fast Internet in a 5th world country - it is as simple as this. It does not mean no high speed Internet is available in all Peru, but 95% of the country does have snail type Internet. Maybe you get in in Miraflores etc but what if you have to travel? Down to 384 kbps? The nex...
