Goalie 3443, what is the name of the song? I'm an old Beach Boy fan.

Re: Your first Peru experience?

During my first trip to Perú, I earned an Advanced Spanish Certificate from El Sol Spanish School in Miraflores. However, on weekends, I stayed with Perú's Ballumbrosio family in the District of El Carmen in Chincha, Ica where I fell in love with the community. And have gone back almost every year. ...

Hi Tom,
I've been traveling to El Carmen almost annually since 2005. I have a goddaughter there and many members of the community know me by face, if not by name Spanish name: Guillermo.

Re: Any Expats in or around Chincha (Ica)?

Yes, Tupac, after so many visits to Chincha, I realized that the hub of Afro-Peruvian culture is in El Carmen, Guayabo, San Regis, San José, and Tambo de Mora. One day, I'd love to visit Zaña (thanks for sharing) and Lambayeque (I heard in songs by Susana Baca).

Any Expats in or around Chincha (Ica)?

Chincha is my home away from home, and have been visiting almost annually. I plan on retiring and living in the District of El Carmen (of Chincha) where I already have family-like connections. However, it would be nice to network with other English-speaking expats in the area. As the saying goes, “¡...

Re: Why so many foreigners come to Peru to get married ?

Panman, After taking so many vacations in Perú, I plan on retiring and moving to Perú as an expat. I don't have a wife and I'm not looking for one. However, I do find that Peruvian women are a lot friendlier, more approachable, and less defensive than the average American woman, especially here in C...

Cuban, Venezuelean, Paraguayan and Bolivian spanish is easy to follow too. I find that Argentinian Spanish is the hardest one to understand.[/quote] Wow, Chi Chi, out of nine Spanish speaking countries that I've visited, Venezuela was the most difficult for me to understand. I had to tell people in ...

I've been called “familia,” which in Perú is a colloquial expression for Afro-Peruvian.

Re: CREDIT CARD USE IN PERU...

Arroz Con Pollo, it's interesting that you mentioned gift cards to Amazon. Does Amazon actually ship items to Perú? That would be one of my main concerns if I were to relocate there as planned. I'd like to be able to order my favorite books on line.

I search this site and see no directions on putting together a profile or uploading a photo. What's the secret. I'm new here.

Chicha is now more Metizo than Afro. Callao is your best bet and no far to travel. The majority lives in the Peruvian regions of Lima and Callao but there are also large communities in the regions of Ica, Lambayeque and Piura. In Callao they live in the districts of Carmen de la Legua, Ventanilla a...

Re: American citizen murdered in La Victoria

Although I've been warned by Peruvian Americans as well as Peruvians about La Victoria, I went anyway for personal reasons. I rented a room, made friends, and got along well while there. I just thank God that I am safe, but I'm really saddened by this news and my heart goes out to Patricia and her f...

I've been to Perú several times, made friends, and established family-like connections. I even have a goddaughter in the District of El Carmen in Chincha. While talking on the phone just this evening with a friend in Chincha, it suddenly hit me that I should move there for good. This is why I joined...
