Hey there - it sounds like getting together a big group would be a lot of fun. I'd definitely be interested! Let me know if you get anything sorted out.

Re: No more Corredor Azul on Javier Prado!

Wow, really?! I didn't know that. It doesn't really impact me that much, I never go far enough on Javier Prado to justify the cost of the Corredor Azul buses, but I'm still very surprised to hear that. Do you know why they made that decision?

Chi Chi, if you hate Peru so much, why do you hang around on this forum? Your negativity is SOOOO grating to those of us who are here, living permanently or temporarily. Is Peru The Best Country Ever(tm)? No. But the consistent bragging of how Europe is so much better is honestly just repetitive noi...

Re: Thinking about to live and work in Peru

I think it depends a LOT on where you plan to live. I'm from rural California, and I moved to Lima. The culture shock was entirely overwhelming in more ways than I could have imagined. I'm not used to living in a city, AT ALL. Traffic and bus systems and lots of people are a completely new thing to ...

Lol, so I've got two opposing answers - because they don't put things in it, or because they put MSG in it. I realllllly hope it's the former; MSG gives me pretty stellar migraines (which I've been getting since I came here, and had attributed to the new place/weather/stress/etc)...

Bacon

Ok, legitimate question here - the bacon I've found here (both at Wong and Metro) seems to be WAY tastier than the bacon I get at home in the states. Is there any reason anyone can think of for this? Any sort of additives or something they might put in it? Obviously this isn't a matter of great impo...

You're probably right, IronChef - I think I was just comparing it to the amount of food you'd get for S/.10 for a menu, and it's a little smaller portion. Still, it's a pretty good deal overall, and the food is good in my opinion. :)

Re: Do you feel danger when in the public now?

My family was robbed in their car at gunpoint last year, in Jesus Maria. And then just last night returning from work, someone on my bus had her cell phone stolen, although the man didn't threaten her or act violently - he just snatched it as she was using it, and ran. I think the biggest thing is t...

Hey Dave, found the Italian place - around S/. 10-14 for a frozen Italian take home meal. Called Palacio de la Pasta, and it's at the corner of Arequipa and Republica de Colombia, in San Isidro. Delivery phone numbers: 440-5175 or 422-8561, email [email protected].com. They either sell you froze...

I tried here in Lima and it was a no-go.

No. I rent a room in Miraflores a block from the water, and pay +/- S/.1200 a month. Good people, good area, good room, good apartment - but you get what you pay for. Look in th...

I've definitelu noticed that there is a VERY high value placed on education in this family. Both boys go to a very good school, and also attend a private English university. One of them is currently studying in China. I believe most of their money goes into what they believe will create a better fut...

Re: The exuberance of Peruvian birthday parties

Interesting, as I've noticed exactly the opposite. My cousin turned thirteen on the 11th, and his father had a birthday on the 14th. In both cases, we had a dinner out with family, but the gifts were quite sparse, and not too much was made of it. And this is a family that, while not rich, certainly ...

What about excedrin? The heat in Lima has been bringing on some pretty nasty migraines for me, and excedrin is typically the only thing that works for me in the US. It looks like I'm going to run out fairly quickly... Would it be easier to just have my US family ship me some?

Re: Finally visiting Macchu Picchu but need some help

I did Machu Picchu as a kid with my family, when I was 10. My dad is a pilot and we lived pretty high in the Sierra Nevada, so altitude wasn't too much of a problem, but if your kids aren't used to it I'd use caution. There were a lot of others on our trip who got sick. I wish I knew more of the det...

Abuse of the system in such a way makes me wonder if the first incident - the harassment - was part of the calculation, or part of reality. Really a terrible shame either way; if untrue, it's a slap in the face to those who HAVE been through a situation of harassment, and if true, it makes it hard t...
