Re: Skyscanner has the best fares!

I generally get the best airfares when I buy my ticket by the airlines directly.

Cut out the middleman and you pay less. Those websites add hidden extras like beefed up credit card transaction fees and (often non-existing) taxes.

Menu places aren't as cheap as you think.

I cook at home. A lot cheaper and at least I know what's put in my food. And my kitchen and toilet is clean.

A clean and nice hostel would do well in Cajamarca. They are tough to find.

Glad I live in Miraflores, I feel safe anytime of day or night. :D If you barely leave your top floor flat and have 3 inch thick metal bars in front of your windows and 3 or 4 locks on your door then you indeed you can feel safe. My gf was used to work in Miraflores and they snatched her handbag 2 ...

The US Embassy will not help you at all. If embassies would hand out free airline tickets to people who claim to have run out of money then there will be a long line of 'budget travelers' at the door of the embassies. The OP will have to pay his fine. There's no way of getting away with it. Even dr...

It sounds like crime is getting really bad in Lima  11 people where shot (many of them did not survive) during the past 10 days: Are things really this bad in Lima? Has anyone noticed an increase in crime lately? Welcome to Lima. A city where most people live in poverty, a sky-high unemploym...

I often travel to Lima and I always wear summer clothing. In the winter a thin jacket is needed in the evening. It also depends where you go Lima. When I lived in Magdalena and went to Gamarra. I left my home wearing a jacket but I was sweating when I arrived in La Victoria. The area around the coas...

Hi, I came to Peru 7 years ago to marry. The paper work was just so confusing we never followed through. We were very happy but now things have fallen apart. I never had much money or a job in Peru, mostly lived off her. I finally scraped enough together to get a flight. The 7 year fine is impossib...

Thanks for the suggestion. I hope it is not like some of the other places I have looked. Everywhere I go it is an open market where all meat is hanging on a hook in the warm, humid air. Yes all are helpful and I not sure they even know what a roast is. You have to go to the mercado early in the mor...

With that pay rate how do people afford to buy all of the housing that is for sale? I understand many live with family which is what I intend to do at first. Re: How long Peruvians live? Lima vs southern highlands

I am originally from Texas. I read a recent article that people who live in the cities of Texas have a greater life expectancy than people who live in the rural areas of Texas. I believe they attributed it to better access to quality medical care. People in the cities do light work like 9-5 office ...

Kuczynski sounds like a nice guy but I think he's too old. Why should he still have a job at his age? Especially a job as president. Most people in the world don't get that old as him. He should enjoy the little time he has left. Keiko is still young and still far away from retirement age so she's e...

Save yourself from the hassle.

Sell your stuff in Peru and buy new stuff in the US.
Furniture and other household goods are cheaper in the US.

You'll be bullied by customs and bureaucrcy to the limit.

Re: IT jobs in lima - any success stories?

I think your wife's (or wives'...?) idea of prices is five or ten years out of date. Even if you mange to get an IT job in Lima, $2,000 a month isn't much to live on if you're planning to start a family and send your children to private school. House prices in Lima have tripled in ten years. Unless...

Obviously, Keiko will be the new president as there's no real alternative candidate that people can vote for.
