Anywhere to take academic courses during the summer?

Hi all, I would like to take either an online course (from Peru) or in person course in Spanish in education, business, culture/history, literature, almost any course except math or technology or Spanish language courses. Does anyone have suggestions? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks so mu...

Places to Travel in Peru, Limited Physical Ability

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of where to take my parents who have knee problems when they come to visit. I want to take them to Cajamarca but I'm not sure how friendly it is in terms of walking around with knee issues. This means, less walking but biking is ok. Even horse bac...

Filing US taxes from Peru

Hi all, I'm not sure who else to go to on this question. I have a job here in Peru, and residency. I am filing a 1040 in the USA, and State through Massachusetts. I don't have W2s from my Peruvian job, it will appear as though I don't have income on my taxes. I looked up on the IRS website, and I qu...

Re: Where can I buy prep materials for DELE in Lima?

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the info. Good to know about other options for tests and that el Sol has a testing center. Is there an SBS store in Lima? Or is it for online sales?

Thanks,
M

Where can I buy prep materials for DELE in Lima?

Hi all, I am studying to take the level C1 exam. I have looked around a few bookstores in Lima, but no one seems to carry study materials for the DELE. I know Spanish language schools might have them, but I'd have to sign up for a class. Does anyone have any advice? In particular, I'd like El Cronóm...

Still seeking Spanish tutor

Hello all again, I am back here looking for a Spanish tutor, one who has a solid methodology and does more than grammar and conversation, one who really knows how to get into the grit of the language. I am an intermediate/advanced Spanish learner and I need someone who can take me to the next level....

Re: Questions about therapists / counseling / clinical social work

Hi Rosie, I am an LICSW from the States. I can't answer your question completely, but I do know that therapy here seems to be done by psychologists. Their closest equivalent I think is assistant social work (asistenta social) but that tends to mean something more like a sociologist that works on mez...

Carryon Instruments to Peru? Good idea?

Hi all, I have an Indian handrum that's extremely precious to me that I have kept at home because of worries of potential damage from humidity in Peru and from the travel. It's a wooden, metal, and leather hand drum, relatively small, that could fit as a carry-on. Has anyone had experience with this...

Re: Waiting for residency, can I stay in Peru even if my visa is set to expire?

Hi all, amendment on the previous information. You can, in fact, leave the country while you wait for your residency paperwork but you must be approved to travel by migraciones. To do this, you pay a s/29 fee at banco de la nación and fill out a form F-007 that can be found online at the migraciones...

Clarify 30 day rule for job contract for work visa?

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knows the 30-day contract rule for applying for a work visa (cambio de calidad migratorio as an employee). Does this mean that you must present your contract to ministerio de trabajo within 30 days of your contract being signed by you and your employer, or presen...

Hi all, It's nice to meet so many of you on here! I'm Maha and I moved here from Boston to work at a social project called Rurapuk in Villa María. Like many of you I fell in love with Peru, and a special someone :D, my boyfriend who lives in Barranco. I live in Chorrillos now. At home I was a clinic...

Waiting for residency, can I stay in Peru even if my visa is set to expire?

Hi all, Does anyone have first-hand experience about what happens when you have dropped all your paperwork at Migraciones for a visa (I am getting a calidad de migratorio/ work visa through my job). BUT my tarjeta de tourismo visa(US passport holder) is set to expire before I should get my visa. Do ...

Any Amazing Afro-Peruvian Dance Classes?

Hi all,

I really want to take Afro-Peruvian dance class with *live music/drumming!* Does anyone have suggestions? I live in Chorrillos, it would be great if it wasn't in the center of Lima, but closer to Barranco. I'd love to hear your experiences or ideas.

Thanks,

Re: Getting my African American type hair styled

Hi Tiana,

Welcome to Lima! I actually just ended up chopping off my hair, the humidity, etc. So I don't have any advice, sorry. I can't say people have stopped and stared at me, but someone actually grabbed my hair in a minibus. That was unpleasant. I hope you found some luck!

Best,
M

INTERPOL paperwork before Resident paperwork? Is it possible?

Hello all,

I was wondering if one needs to begin the resident paperwork, ie have the code number from the immigration office before getting the paperwork done at INTERPOL? I hear they are completely separate entities.

Thanks much!

Overstay then apply for residency? Bad idea?

Hi all, I am in the process of getting a residence visa but I'm sure my paperwork won't be completed before my tourist visa runs out. Will it create problems for me with the authorities if I overstay my visa while I complete my work visa? It might be an overstay of 2 months. Does anyone have experie...
