Re: making top money and be your own boss

I wrote teaching your native language 5 hours a week, not per day. 5 hours a week should be pretty easy to do and that is very far from being a slave to someone and you make more at that than working all night. Not sure I understand your point about it. Again, if it was a lucrative business, ie top...

Re: No More Cell Phones for Tourists & Informals

Well, euroman, your presumption sort of does not fit the reality. OSIPTEL now requires a second process for activiating your phone that requires a verified carnet or dni, so ignoring the rule will give you a phone that does not function. There also another way of communicating? http://www.cartoonst...

Re: Looking for 2 single mattresses

There is no such thing as free transportation to or from anywhere, in the same way there is no such thing as a free carrier bag from a supermarket. Somewhere along the line you will be paying through the nose for it. As Kelly said, if you are offered "free transportation" you've payed too...

Re: making top money and be your own boss

I'm quite aware with regards to how informal businesses work. These same people who work at night and now make a couple hundred soles per month (a lot different from 100 soles per day). That's very little for a foreigner that could teach their native language for $5-$10 an hour. I don't know what y...

Re: Craft beers in Lima??

The Vivanda on Libertadores in San Isidro (and possibly other Vivandas too) has started selling some of the imported beers that Chez Phillipe sells. They don't have them in the beer section but rather on the tables of imported foods that are near the cheese and ham counter. They are about half the ...

Re: No More Cell Phones for Tourists & Informals

There is a new rule from Osiptel that says you can no longer get a pre-paid cell phone with a passport, you must now present a carnet or DNI. I am not sure why the rules have been presented, just saw the notice at 3 different cell phone stores tonight. Pfff, there are a lot of notices of whatever a...

, business "license" I'm trying to get the full picture. Check it out for yourself. Walk around town and ask those streetsellers if they have a licence and how much they pay for SUNAT. Don't make it complicated, doing a business is much easier than you think. Just buy a cart, buy cheap st...

Police would take all your information, it's ok, it's their job. But what problems could there be if you didn't leave? Would they buy you a ticket to California? Seriously, they could do nothing. They can't even keep criminals behind bars. In my understanding, police really can't lay any char...

Re: making top money and be your own boss

Profit or sales? 100 soles profit can be made a day. But it depends of yourself. If you sell bad food and treat your customers bad then you will be making a lot less. You can buy a second hand cart for 250 soles, buy stock and start selling. It's not a glamourous business and you won't become a mil...

Re: making top money and be your own boss

100 per night profit or sales? Every night or just weekends pulling in the 100? The distinction matters greatly. You might not make 100 a day from day one. Like any business, you must build up a customer base. Don't be scared of competion. Competition can be good. Just sell a product that's slightl...

If you find yourself in Lima airport, there is no way they would not allow you into the country. According to international rules, this would mean airline has to wear the costs of flying you back. This only happens in USA, I'm pretty much sure it never happened in history of Peru. And if you find y...

If he didn't have to pay a fine then it shows that nothing is registered against him. That's an assumption, nothing more, nothing less. If informality reigns in the lower social classes, then how can expect good social health care if no-one pays for it? It's a mentality issue that you cannot simply blame on the rich. I guess what's needed is good unions. To stop exploitation. It's one of the biggest problems in Peru. Many people ar...
