Movistar cell service - need to change providers - seeking recommendations

Hi everyone, I am Peruvian and travel to Peru a few times a from the U.S. where I live. I have had a prepaid Movistar line for literally years. When outside peru, I have kept it active by adding a few soles to it now and then. Due to a technical glitch which Movistar admits was their responsibility,...

Re: Renewing peruvian passport in Lima: availability of appointments on short notice

Thanks Alan for the tip. Update: we got the passport today, but not without some hand wringing at the last minute. According to a memo in the Migraciones office, there has been a problem since February 2017 with the machines leased to the Peruvian Migraciones that are used to make passports. So Migr...

Re: Mobile phone pay as go tariffs

hi, you can bring your own phone (GSM unlocked) and just purchase a prepaid SIM card for S/5 or so. You can then add soles whenever you want. The SIM tel # will become deactivated after a year or so depending upon the carrier. The way to keep it active is to ask someone in Peru to add soles to it or...

Hi, I would recommend not staying in Tumbes city proper, but rather at one of the beach resorts outside of (South of) Tumbes. It's more relaxing and safer than staying in Tumbes city proper. You can take transportation from your hotel to the Centro Binacional de Atencion Fronteriza (Binational Cente...

Re: Renewing peruvian passport in Lima: availability of appointments on short notice

Hi Alan,
Thanks for this great tip. We will try this.

Question: when you say Migraciones do you mean the office in Bre~a or any of the offices we may choose to go to? Does it matter which one?

I checked online and there are no appointments until July so your advice is really helpful!
Thanks much.

Vitamins are still very expensive in Peru. Importing vitamins is complicated and requires you to fill out extra paperwork because DIGEMID regulates them like they are medicines (similar to how the FDA does in the US). If you import them for personal use you should just fill out the DIGEMID paperwork...

I know these bites well, they are flea bites (pulgas). Fleas for some reason bite right near tight fitting clothing, so if you are getting bites near your waistline, ankle, cuffs, etc. that would be the flea bite. Fleas are brown/black in color.
