I back up Hiraoka. By far best selection, constantly good prices and sales, and good warranties. La Curacao is alright.

Ripley's is a complete rip-off, and have heard many problems with warranties and returns.

In my opinion, there is a higher PERCENTAGE of Expats and Expat business owners in Huaraz than Lima. This might be because tourism is very popular there, and seems that the Expat business owners cater well to that crowd.

It could also be just that they stand out more in Huaraz than in Lima.

Thank you Kelly for posting that USTVNow.com site on here a couple weeks ago. We streamed the game over 3G and connected a laptop to a 37" flat screen and enjoyed the game that way. Even with medium quality, it came across really well and only had two short times where it went "pixely."

All us US Expats in Huaraz (plus a couple Brits) got together at one of the cafes and had a huge spread. Everyone made their favorite dish from home, and I believe the turkey, greenbean casserole, and even pumpkin pie was the best I've ever had (but don't tell my mom)!

I'm going back to the US for the second time at Christmas, and I already have 3 Kindles waiting for me to bring back for friends. Portable USB hard drives are very popular as well, and can be bought for cheap during black friday sales.

CompuPalace and Hiraoka, along with the artisans market north and a little east of Plaza Kennedy are great for just about anything besides grocery shopping. Hiraoka has the best prices on most electronics and household goods, only slightly higher than the US.

In June I bought two nice bottles from the Duty Free shop in the Airport for pretty cheap (2 0.5L for S/. 38)and they deliver them to the gate for you. Then when you get in the US, don't forget to transfer to your checked bags if you have another flight.
