Re: Moving to Lima

Here are the pros/cons lists for me: Miraflores: more entertainment, easy to walk to bars, restaurants, clubs, lots of tourists, lots of traffic, relatively safe, easy access to taxis and combis San Isidro: quieter, more upscale, lots of nice restaurants/bars, Lima Golf Course, more of a suburban li...

Re: Cell phone difficulties

One thing to be on the lookout for as well is minute theft. This can happen when someone connects up to your cell via Bluetooth (hacking his way in) to steal your minutes. It can happen without your being aware. That is one possibility; another is that the cell phone company is simply stealing your...

Re: Cell phone difficulties

I put 10 soles on my Nextel Wednesday, ONLY use the walkie-talkie function to talk to my husband while he's driving, and was out of credit on Thursday. They said I "must be doing it wrong" :? I am assuming that the walkie talkie function doesn't actually use minutes? I keep getting these ...

Re: Cell phone difficulties

The whole phone thing is so frustrating. I just purchased minutes on Tuesday, and I haven't called anyone. But now I am out of minutes (I assume) and cannot call out. I don't want to spend any more money purchasing minutes if they don't work.

Re: Opening a Bank Account

Kelly, your friend got lucky. I am sure it is not too difficult to buy one with a passport, but the new law makes it clear that they are NOT supposed to sell one, not even pre-paid without a carnet. It is an anti drug trafficking law...the same one that shut down bank accounts on passports. Both my...

Re: Recibos de honorarios

It's common to pay 50 soles to whom and for what? For the taxes or the recibos? The company I'm contracting for doesn't likely have people who stay more than three months, and those who do produce RDHs for the company have a local novia/o or esposa/o. I'm not aboard the latter ship. And most certai...

Then I started looking online - and found a company (Fresh Life) that offered delivery of the bidones as well as a dispenser and a skinny wooden stand to put it on, which was perfect for the small space I needed to put it in. Jalapenomel, you may have already found what you were looking for, but about the water birth with Pakarii: we called and tried to get some preliminary information (like pricing, etc), but they were very strict about not saying anything over the phone. You have to go to an information session or som...

I was curious to know how to find a housekeeper. I have a lead on one, but there is a possibility that she will not have time for another client. Re: Health Insurance in Lima

Another option is to go with a family health insurance program directly with a clinica. We went with Clinica El Golf, in San Isidro. We are pretty happy with it. They have a long list of competent doctors in all specialties. The only drawback is that you have to be in Lima to be treated at their cl...

I figured I would not be able to do it online, but I thought I would ask just in case! We will have a Peruvian bank account as soon as my spouse's work visa is complete, which we are hoping will be the end of this month.

Fingers crossed!

Can I add minutes to my phone online?

We have pre-paid Claro, and I would love to know if there is somewhere online that we can re-up our minutes. I also realized that we are probably incredibly spoiled in the US by being able to do virtually everything online, so if you tell me to go to the tienda, I would not be too surprised. Also, j...
