They don't want to talk about classism because they don't want to be challenged. Peruvians, even if they are poor, want to feel superior if they have a European complexion. They may not be the brightest, but they can't believe or accept that a person of modest means or darker than them can be smart...

Gestion newspaper yesterday had an article about how prices are up in most areas. Price of copper is back up, agro is strong, the economy just clicks along in spite of it all. Sure be nice if the country risk would drop so mortgages might become a little cheaper.

I really don't see many apartments there at all. It's pretty much all commercial on the main floor, and the upper floors are often used for warehouse spaces. I have driven here for close go 15 years. It's a little funky, but not as bad as you have been advised. The route to Ica is pretty decent, and even at night you should not have a problem.
