Re: Do you think Peru is a third world country?

It all depends on your definition of "third world". Peru is (still) a somewhat poor country compared to the US or Western European countries, but compared to many countries in sub-saharan Africa or a country like Haiti it is not. Within South/Latin America Peru is somewhere in the middle (...

Re: Peru's "Chapa tu Choro" on the front page of UK's Daily Mail

This is obviously not the way to solve Peru's crime problem and some of the punishments are pretty brutal, but I can understand why the people do it. They are tired of being victims and unfortunately the police isn't very effective in most of Peru so they see no other way. And let's not forget that ...

Also, could you recommend an area in Lima for renting an appartment? A professional, safe, middle class area, but not terrible expensive like Miraflores. Thank you San Miguel is a decent, reasonably safe middle class area that is cheaper than Miraflores. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wfXvblgZ30

It sucks that discos get shot up. It seems more common than movie theaters, probably because of the alcohol and cocaine consumption that doesn't really happen in movie theaters where being drunk and coked up when you're encouraged to be quiet and still don't really go together.
