Basketball, Sports, Clubs, Exercise

Postby eamadsen » Tue Jan 02, 2018 3:40 pm

We are moving to Peru in April. Our 15-year-old son loves basketball and spends hours at the gym most days. Are there places where a kid can go, without parents, and play, lift weights, etc.? Are there basketball leagues for teens? How to teenage expats make friends in Lima? We also have 17-year-old b/g twins.

We will be living in San Isidro or Miraflores and would like to live near the gym.

I appreciate any help from those who have already navigated this transition.

Hi,

Check with The Lima Cricket and Footbal Club. It is a sports and social club and it likely offers a temporary membership for expats. http://www.clublimacricket.com/

If you don't like that, you can check out any number of gyms, though these will not offer basket ball or team sports.

Thank you. We are from the States. Do you know if there an American or Canadian club? My brother was an expat in China for a while and said they spent a great deal of time at the American Club in Beijing.

There are no clubs specifically for Canadians or Americans. There used to be an association which organized monthly events, but it died out a couple years ago. Try Internations for expat oriented social events.

As for social/sport clubs, the short-list would be (and hopefully other people might add to this), Club Terrazas in Miraflores, Cricket in Magdalena, La Rinconada in La Molina, and Regattas on the coast in Chorrillos. and club Villa, which is in an island of Surco surrounded by the district of Chorrillos. But that geographic accident is a story for another time.. basically, it Club Villa is along another part of the coast, also in Villa.

They all should offer short-term packages for expats. Long term membership can range from a 5 thousand to close to 60 (I think) for the top clubs.

There are also neighborhood pools in most districts. Here are some linkks: viewtopic.php?t=6001, http://www.wawasinperu.com/swimming-pools-in-lima-peru/

cheers.
