No Strangers Here: Help after a Fall

Postby edgeclinger » Fri Nov 26, 2010 2:17 pm

"Do you need help?" Yes, we could use some help. Gene had got his foot tangled in some bush trimmings by the sidewalk and had fallen hard and fast, finding his head against the pavement and the rest of his tall body lying limply behind. I didn't know where the nearest hospital was and wasn't sure how bad the damage was. By the time he said he thought he was ok and sat up, we saw the colorful grapefruit sized egg on his head. The English speaking person who had stopped his car in the street to help suddenly looked at me and said "I know you." And that's how we happened to meet American_in_Lima aka George on Thanksgiving Day. Helping us get to the hospital and making sure that all was well was how he spent his next hour or two, as his family sat waiting for him to join them for Thanksgiving dinner at home. Severe bruising to the head, shoulder and knee seems to be all that happened and he is feeling sore but ok this morning.
No strangers here, I thought. I immediately felt that I knew this person well, although I had never laid eyes on him before. It was a good feeling. Thank you, George. And thank you, Expat Peru.

That's such a cool story, I read your blog. That is the kind of person George is, a great guy. We were lucky enough to spend some time with him here in Pucallpa earlier this year.

Thank you Laurie for those kind words. Gene was a good sport considering the circumstances. :)

Firstly Laurie I hope Gene makes a full recovery. It is worse when you are in a strange country and know very little about your surroundings. I certainly helps when you have a friend pass by your door just as it happens. Well done George. It makes us proud of our community.
