GROUP FOR NEW ARRIVALS AND LONELY PEOPLE

Postby Comet » Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:25 am

Having read several messages from lonely people and "newbies"...why not form a group for socialising and some of us "old-hands" could take turns attending the meetings and sharing our experiences and advice ?

Thanks, Comet! I hope some people will be willing to take the time out to do this, I would love to attend and hear other people's stories and takes. Good on you!

Anyone interested in meeting up next week? I posted this on my original post, and it seems the same people responded. My schedule is wide open now, let's pick a day and time.

Thanks!
Comet

OK I would be happy to volunteer for the first meeting, as an oldie with 4 years here, experience of work, carnets, tax, apartments etc, I will be happy to meet a bunch of new people and anyone who feels a bit lost. The best times for me are weekday afternoons or this Sat. evening. then hopefully someone else could arrange another one for the following week and give a different perspective.
I live in San Borja but we could meet for a coffee near here or have a beer and chat in MIraflores. PM me for my phone numbers.

Rob, this is a great idea. I just want to ask you about your other idea to form a social group; we're still waiting for that to get off the ground. I still think it is a great idea.

Check out http://www.meetup.com/limasocialclub that myself and another friend organized.

We have about 55 people as members.

We always have events for meetups, so it's a good way to meet expats. I hosted one of the events at Bravo Bar in December for drinks and we had about 30 people show up.

I also have created a Lima Scotch Drinkers Club that started in December, so if you are interested, feel send to send me a PM for more details. You can also easily join by going to:

http://www.meetup.com/Lima-Scotch-Drinkers-Club/

Hope this helps.
Regards,

George

WE can have a meeting next wednesday..19th..in MIraflores at 2pm...I suggest we could meet at the entrance to Calle de Pizzas as everyone knows it ,then go for coffee, unless someone has a better idea.
So all new arrivals, anyone feeling a bit lost and any old-hands are all welcome.
I even thought of a name for the group....GNARL :D

I'd make a suggestion of finding a more specific place to meet, and perhaps a place that isn't quite so inundated with gringo faces, or you'll have a very difficult time finding each other. We've had a couple of meet-ups in Miraflores that fell apart simply because people couldn't tell which group of gringos sitting around drinking coffee was the one from Expat!

Cafe Verde on Santa Cruz, I believe cross street is Piura, this is fairly close to Ovalo Gutierrez, is a nice little place and not packed all the time, I have seen mostly Peruvians and some "gringos". The coffee is good. Does this work for y'all?

To my knowledge, it didn't happen yesterday. Comet, who offered to be the "old hand" has been busy, but hopefully we can get some people together to meet, maybe next week. Really want to speak English and be around others who are going through the adjustment process.

I don't think a time/place has been arranged yet. In the meantime, don't forget we've got the book swap/get together on Feb 5. If you have books or DVDs to swap, that's great - if not, you're free to show up anyway and for coffee and conversation. Send me a PM if you'd like the directions.

It seems this was already planned at a local restaurant, but very few people showed up.

Maybe it's time for someone to arrange another.
