I will be traveling to Peru in a few months and I did some research a while back about vaccines. I wrote down that i should get vaccinated for Yellow Fever, Typhoid, and Malaria. I am also going to be traveling to other countries in South America. I talked to a clinic here in America that specialized is giving vaccines to people traveling abroad and they said some of the vaccines can cost as much as $250. I dont know if i will need one this expensive but im sure it will not be cheap.
What do you reccomend? What vaccines do i need and where should i get the vaccinations from. The US or Peru?
Thanks for you help,
It all depends on where you're going, if you know in advance you'll be able to look at the malaria map and decide for yourself if you feel you're going to need to carry some tablets. I've been in 7 different countries in S. America and not once taken an anti-malaria tablet.
As for yellow fever, if you're planning on going into Brazil and then to another country you're going to need the certificate just to get into the country, you could just get it in that country for a lot cheaper than at home and it's probably safe enough, i got it before leaving though and it did save a lot of hassle... if an expensive save.
I would get the hepatitis A and typhoid jags for sure... hep B also if you think you might be sleeping around a bit.
Without knowing where you're planning on going and what you plan to do it's hard to say what you you'll need.
