SEEK A BOOK FROM - 1979...

Postby Philipc4u59 » Wed Mar 27, 2013 11:06 am

Hey guys & gals,

I am seeking the following Peruvian book relating to PAPER MONEY; published in 1979:

EL BILLETE EN EL PERU
Banco Central de Reserva del Peru
183 pages

I appreciate any help in locating this not-so-old book; maybe there are "OLD BOOK STORES" in Lima?

HAPPY EASTER TO YOU & YOURS,
Philip

PS - I am buying old money (circulated or uncirculated); paying more than the "street" price - contact me. Especially interested in the larger denominations of 1,000,000 & 5,000,000 Intis from late 80's - early 90's.

There's an ongoing second hand book fair at San Marcos university which I've visited numerous times. I'm sure there will be the same at other universities, but I know of this one personally.
The prices are reasonable as they are aimed at students, but be prepared to haggle as you might get stung being a Gringo.

Philip:

Do you happen to collect non Peruvian banknotes as well? I do collect banknotes and it is very hard in Peru to find people with this hobbie. I'm not into the "commercial" side though, so I do not usually deal with $$ transactions but rather trading. I'm also looking for a 5 million banknote sample in UNC condition which are really hard to find. In this case I'm willing to give away a circulated sample, a 1million UNC and some money for it, unless you would want soles from the 70s.

I have only ever seen the UNC 1,000,000 Peru note one time; the owner was asking some $45.00!!!
The 5,000,000 note was redeemed for 2.5 to 3 soles; when the new money was issued (Limaeasy.com.pe).
Finding a UNC 5 mm - will be difficult & expensive (probably close to $150.00); if I had to guess.

I enjoy the old Peruvian money; it gives me a "feel" for the economy in past years.
I had a collection of old US paper money; that I gave to my son as a wedding present - had collected as a kid.
The lower, more common denominations from 1970's on - are mostly worth 20 centimos (or less in quanity).

My grandchildren enjoy them, as have pictures of Inca people & chiefs - very colorful vs. green/white (US).

Best wishes in your collecting; hopefully we can enjoy a cup of coffee/hot chocolate soon.

A person who wants to remain "unidentified"; tells me he saw one UNC 1,000,000 for $15.00 - some months ago.
This is the problem with SCARCE items; they can command virtually any price - depending on the BUYER.

I have those two bills. The 1,000,000 is uncirculated. The 5,000,000 is in perfect condition except for a tiny nick in the upper left hand corner. As I recall, I paid 20-30 soles each.

I bought them from Edmundo Solis Bustinza (C: 992502088, email: [email protected]). He has a little table on Pasaje Tambo de Belen in the tiny plaza in front of the (I think) Belen Church en el centro.
