Postby longhairedude » Wed Oct 01, 2014 2:44 pm

Hi I got a tax return cheque sent here to me from the UK but does anyone know where I can cash it here in Lima? as I will not be going back to the UK for quite a while.

I do not see why not. The worst that could happen is you give them the check and you have to wait for it to clear before you get the cash. You will probably need a bank account.

If you have an account you can put it simply there...of course they will charge a fare to change the currency from pounds to soles...but besides that I never had an issue with foreign checks.

It's not that simple, not all Banks take international checks.
I processed a check from the US at Scotiabank, they charged me about $25, and it took 30 days to clear the funds into my account.

I agree. It's not that simple. Most banks either won't or are unable to process a cheque in sterling. You might find you have to go to a bureau de change and accept a bad exchange rate and wait several weeks for them to process it.

??? Huh??

Until last month I always received checks in euro, I put it to the old, faithful BCP and they addeted the amount on my account in 14 days minus a fee depending on the amount...never had an issue with that 8)
