Organic / health food Shop

Postby Mini » Sun Oct 12, 2014 3:15 am

Hello there,

I will be moving to Lima next month and would like to know if there are good package organic products I can buy over there. I love 100% natural peanut butter/ Almond butter, Plain Greek yogurt, coconut flour etc... any suggestions will be grateful! :)

Thanks
Mini

I've never seen almond butter or coconut flour in Lima and I fear you have to use the "normal" imported peanut butter.

But in the past few years the organic market is slowly growing in Lima. Here a few markets and shops where you can get organic stuff:

Mercados
  • Bio Feria Miraflores (Parque Reducto, Miraflores) every Saturday morning
  • Feria Saludable La Molina (Av. Corregidor, cuadra 5, La Molina) every Saturday morning
  • Bio Feria Surquillo (Mercado # 1, Boulevar Surquillo) every Sunday morning
  • Feria Saludable La Molina (Av. Ferrero cuadra 5, La Molina) every Sunday morning

Shops
  • Madre Natura (Calle Chiclayo 815, Miraflores)
  • Eco Tienda Natural (Calle Porta 275, Miraflores)
  • Bio Deli (Av. Petit Thouars 4828, Miraflores)
  • Uma (Calle Chiclayo 985, Miraflores)
  • Punto Orgánico (Av. La Mar 1163, Miraflores)
  • Enkanto (Av. La Paz 646, Miraflores)
  • Shanti (Av. Petit Thouars 4690, Miraflores)
  • La Calandria (Calle 28 de Julio 202, Barranco)
  • Las vacas felices (Calle Colina 108, Barranco)
  • La Panadera (Jr. Alfonso Ugarte 141, Barranco)
  • Kasa Kambalache (Calle 2 de Mayo 157, Barranco)
  • Bio Zenda (Av. Pedro Venturo 218, tienda A 108, Surco)
  • The Natural Shop (CC Caminos del Inca, tienda 133, Surco)
  • Salvia (Av. Primavera 1295, Monterrico, Surco)
  • Natural Store (Av. Arenales 2094, Lince)

The BioFeria at Parque Reducto No 2 on Saturday mornings has a great selection of health foods including coconut flour, raw honey, coconut oil, organic juices, etc. They also have organic dairy products as well as a huge selection of organic veggies and fruits. We haven't found anywhere to buy peanut or almond butter here, and have to order it online when we need it.

FYI locallygrown - almond butter is very easy to make if you have a food processor. Simply place the almonds in the processor, turn on (I do medium speed) and 15 - 20 minutes later you should have almond butter. No need to add anything. Periodically scrape the sides and complete when you get the texture you want. I imagine you could do the same with peanuts.

Hey- there is a new store called La Sanahoria open in San Isidro. You can get fresh almond butter from their machine, I bought some on Saturday and it's really delicious. I asked about peanut butter and was told that more people are allergic to peanuts so they don't have it available yet- I don't know if he meant they have to buy a second machine for peanut butter, it's 26 sole for a 250g jar but I think it's worth it!!
They sell mostly organic produce and fresh milk and yoghurt. I was so happy to find it and I have already become a regular! I just got some quinoa bread there today and they have a good selection of gluten free products. I'm not sure on the flour but I will check next time I am in there and let you know.
They have a Facebook page but I can't find a website.
