Change to Windows 7?

Postby Followthesun » Sat Jan 24, 2015 1:36 pm

I bought a computer here in Peru and it has Windows 8.1 - single language.
I have tried the suggestions herein to change the language to English, but have had no success.
I know Windows 7 and maybe will be easier to change the language and navigate.
Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks

The version you have, is as stated a single language (Same model as the old Home Edition) and does not have the facility to change the language. I would suggest you upgrade to Win 8.1 Pro. This has all the added bits. The language change is virtually identical to WIN 7 , but even easier.

Thanks for the info Adrian.
Would you advise changing to Windows 7?
I need a computer course in English.

Thanks again

Windows 8 was introduced to a fan fair, but never quite made it, but with the free upgrade to 8.1 Microsoft have achieved what they set out to do. It installs well and is virtually trouble free. Designed for the tablet market, faster than Windows 7 and provides applications and synchronisation in line with all other Windows products. You will either love it or loath it. I find it a great improvement.

Adrian,

My computer purchased here has 8.1 - but single language.
The sales person at Ripley told me it would be easy to change to English, not the case.
I can not find any free downloads of 8.1 - pro as you recommend.
One lesson I learned is to not trust sales people in Peru.
Do you feel I should file a complaint with Ripley?

Thanks

Before you go jumping in, just do a quick check. Right click the start button. Go to Control panel then languages. You should see this drop down.

I believe if a person is miss-sold they should always make a claim. You can see from the description it will tells you your choice is available for download.

Hi,

Seems like this works for single language editions.

1. Download the needed file
EN-GB

32Bit: http://fg.v4.download.windowsupdate.com ... 5677eb.cab

64Bit: http://fg.v4.download.windowsupdate.com ... da7da8.cab

EN-US

32Bit: http://fg.v4.download.windowsupdate.com ... 72465e.cab

64Bit: http://fg.v4.download.windowsupdate.com ... 112e68.cab

2. Rename the file to LP.mlc and doubleclick it to install. If it just opens as a folder, then you did somethings wrong with the renaming process. Just change the view settings and untick the hide known extensions and remove the .cab extension and make sure the file is name "LP.mlc"

P.S.
I personally don't recommend to go back to Windows 7. If you want your Windows 8 to looks like 7 just install http://www.classicshell.net/ and all looks familiar again, but you still have the speed of windows 8.
