Issues with searching internet in Peru.

Postby Followthesun » Sat Feb 28, 2015 9:45 am

I admit I have never taken a computer/internet course.
But in the US, I had no problems searching the internet for goods and services.
Here I get so much search info that is for the US - not Peru.
How can I solve these issues - please? I am so frustrated.

Thanks

Not many businesses in Peru are on the Internet, and if they are it is often a 'show' page (flash animation) and not much else.

For specific things, I have the following useful links:

Deltron, computer wholesaler. If you can find it in Deltron, your local computer dealer can probably order it for you: http://deltron.com.pe/

TdC, supplies direct from Deltron database -- useful to get an idea of prices before ordering from your local dealer: http://www.tiendadecomputoperu.com/

Then there is mercado libre and similar which are like ebay, although I've never used them. Perhaps other people could post links to other useful online shopping sites in Peru? Certainly I have also struggled and often resorted to "local exhaustive search" (i.e. walking up and down physical streets until I find what I want.)

Also, if you use Google with site:pe before the search term, that limits results to just those with a Peruvian domain. Not that that helps much when the sites aren't out there ... but anyway.

are you searching in Spanish?
every place has it's own spirit. you just need to tune into it.

Add "Peru" to your search keywords.

There are quite some sites on the internet, although not all "very interactive".
Examples are Ripley, Saga Fagabella, Linio (all types of consumer goods).
A considerable number of smaller companies also use "Mercadolibre" (Peru!) as internet shop window.

the majority of internet content is english/US, but of course there are some local content as well.

solution 1:
www.google.com.pe

of course, some results will still yield USA results if keywords are in english, as the results are almost totally dependent on your keywords.

solution 2:
"search term peru" or "search term lima"

but sometimes, as in my experience, it will yield hits from Peru, Indiana, or Lima, Ohio

try a combination of both, or be more specific with search terms :) it's a hit and miss type of thing.
