I've discovered that chicha morada is better with a couple of rum shots but YMMV.

Mixing anything more than a small, solitary cube of ice with scotch is sacrilege. Whiskey can make it's own juice. Any juice goes well with rum. You didn't ask, but rum and vodka are interchangeable in this regard. I prefer orange juice myself, but I don't really drink much anymore so hopefully someone with more recent experience gives a more valid opinion. I'm sticking with my nothing in scotch suggestion - especially when it's single malt and you really shouldn't be drinking anything but if you're drinking scotch. Whatever you do, don't mix scotch with gaseosa.

Caliguy, what about pisco + chicha morada ?

Have never tried this, but sounds interesting...

I might be alone in this but I love to mix Jameson with Mott's apple juice and some ice cubes. Just this year I've found there is a Peruvian brand, L'Onda, that is making the same style of apple juice. You can find it at Vivanda or Wong if you are interested.

i guess i should have just said rum. i'm no scotch/whiskey aficionado. i do, however like to mix natural fruit juices with some good rum. one juice in particular is "maracuya" (spelling?) sometimes at the local "menu", they'll serve that with your meal, and i'll ask for a bag to go, and later in the evening have a mixed drink (or 2). :D windsportin: never had the pisco and chicha, but have had the homemade chicha with rum, and found it pretty good.
thanks for the tip amd249

Two fingers of white rum, equal amount of water, 3 tea spoons of sugar. Stir to dissolve the sugar. Add the juice of 1 and 1/2 limes. Add ice. Drink the daiquiri exactly as Ernest Hemmingway used to drink them.

Repeat the process whilst saying 'these don't seem too alcoholic'.

Another favorite (of The Fat Slags from Viz) was brandy and tizer. Class in a glass.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.

Vodka and maracuya.
Macerate prunes inside a bottle of pisco for a week.
