2 & 5 sole coins are confusing!

Postby woodchuck » Mon Jun 05, 2017 4:15 pm

This past week I had a late night snack at a street vendor.
She was very busy as she was the only vendor working at 11 pm.
I gave her a 10 sole note & didn't realize she gave me the wrong change.

I should have received 3 soles in return, but received 6 soles instead.
She had confused a 5 soles coin as a 2 soles coin.
I tried several times to locate her again & return the 3 soles mistake - no luck.

Has the government ever tried to remedy this error of both coins looking so similar?
Best wishes to all.

I believe the govt. tried to remedy this situation in the design stage by making one coin larger, one smaller, and printing a 2 on one and a 5 on the other.

This sometimes happened in the US as well with the similarity between the Susan B. Anthony dollar and the quarter when the former was introduced into circulation in the late 70's.

George and Susan were even rocking similar hairstyles!

Keep it and consider yourself one up.
Think about how many times vendors have shorted customers especially gringo customers.
Maybe you've even been on the wrong end of the stick.

Living in Peru, you're either the dog or the fire hydrant.
As a gringo outsider, you're usually the fire hydrant.

This time you were the dog.

As a coin collector, I'd be interested in knowing any other times this type of blunder happened in the US.
