chat function

Hey folks,

Bit of an update on the changes we´ve been making around this web site. Firstly, the Groups section has been reorganized to make the groups easier to find. We are still working out some of the kinks in the formatting of the bulletins and hope to get that done shortly. I know the group section seems a bit awkward at first, but I hope with practice we can work it out. The "plan b" is to later migrate groups to the forums, but that is really a second-best notion, since you don`t have the same facility with photo galleries, videos, etc.

Then today we found a nice chat component to replace the one we re-launched with (which to use a technical term, was really, really crappy). This one seems easier to use and I hope you can give it a try to buzz some of your friends. It gives us the immediacy that I think we were lacking.

If you use the chat, you will notice that the time listed is 2 hours behind our own. This is because it relates to the time where the server lives (in the US). Apparently there is no way to change this, but we will keep working on it. If it becomes an issue, I can migrate the web to a local server, but as you can imagine, this site is very, very large thanks to our active forum, so I shy away from migration.

Anyway... probably more info that you really need, but I did want you to know about the Chat, and that we are still working on making Expatperu the premiere social networking site for the international community in Peru.

All the best,
Alan

The chat function is great. But is there anyway that it can show up anywhere? I mean, if people chat with us, but we're on the forum, we have no idea that they're chatting with us.

I love the chat function and have used it many times.

There are still bugs.

the chat shows up on certain pages and not on others, and if you do not sign out, you still appear online, even if you close the website and that leads to a lot of ARE YOU THERE???? when people are not there.

Do not get me wrong, I am just trying to point out bugs.I think this is a wonderful tool and I am glad to have it.

On another topic...

I do not get notices when people reply on my group, I have to remember to check the me page, and when I write a post in the group, my paragraph formatting dissapears when I press enter.

Still, no complaints..I love the design and I think you for suffering through the re-vamp just to beter serve us.

Thank you Alan

Americorps,

The chat now appears on all pages, except the forum, which is another system tacked on to the main page. I will look into the sign out issue. Regarding the groups notices.. we are working on that too.
Thanks for helping to make this site better.
