Doctors in Lima

Postby Guest » Thu Sep 09, 2010 3:02 pm

Have you found a good doctor here in Peru that you’d like to recommend? Is it a GP or a specialist? Are they in private practice or affiliated with a clinic or hospital? Does he or she speak English or any other languages apart from Spanish? Were prices for office visit reasonable? Where are the offices located?
Remember that other members might send you a private message requesting more information. Thanks for sharing!

That is true they probably are a little high on there cost. BUT if you have World Wide Blue Card Blue Cross and are going to be in the hospital for more than 24 hours. they work with your insurance company and depending on your American plan you probably will pay nothing. Thats the experience we have had.

PERU PSYCH DOC

Postby pwr144 » Fri May 20, 2011 6:53 pm

Dr. Jorge Calderon

I am just tickled, having taken anti-depressants for decades, scores of doctors, to find this guy here in Lima.

Born in Peru, lived and worked in the USA for many years.

It is quite unusual to have any sort of 'human' vibe from psych docs--it isn't really their shtick, but Dr. Jorge is a really nice guy, a personable and knowledgeable guy, and you can just call him on his cell phone.

No, really. On his own phone. Like the Twilight Zone. 99-927-5813

Some anti-depressants are VERY expensive here, some not so much. He can help with meds pricing and may even have some samples around.

First comment here, but thanks to Expat Peru I found a job right away....

My wife and I are living in Lima for the next 6 months until we begin our service with the Peace Corps. However, before we can start we need to do some basic medical checks, tetanus and polio shot update and blood test to prove we've had chicken pox. The forms are in English and we would need to upload our results in English. Any recommendations would greatly help. I would like to keep this as quick and painless (for my wallet) as possible and figured asking here would help compared to just walking into clinca and hoping for the best.

Is it difficult to open an own clinic in Lima if you are a foreigner? Is it real in general? What specific occupation and certificates should I have?
My best project is www.myamplifiers.com

Hey community please help. Are there any doctors here in Peru that are licensed to practice medicine in the United States? Any help given is truly appreciated.

You are right about Dr. Calderon I currently use him for reason(s) I care to keep private. This man truly cares about his patients and I have seen a great improvement since I first visited him. The people around me also see the changes. Our first meeting lasted 3 hours and he asked me for s/. 100 I felt guilty but he insisted that was his fee. He asked at our second meeting about the prices for one of the drugs he had prescribed and immediately told me about a Pharmacy which was actually a Lab and the prices were half of what the Pharmacies here charged.

What I most like about this man is he truly cares about his patients and can be trusted. If anybody wants to know more about him feel free to send me A PM.

The price I paid for a home call to this doctor was S/. 100, which I consider a bargain given that he came all the way out to San Miguel to see me. He was a charming individual, clearly an expert in medicine and an all-around pleasure to deal with. I recommend him.

I am a patient of Dr. Calderon he is truly a great doctor I have been visiting him for over 3 years. I am bi-polar and was totally out of control when I first went to visit him. I now take my medications and I am great. Dr. Calderon charges s/. 150 per session and you can spend as much time as you need with him (remember most Psychiatrists limit you to 45 minutes to an hour). He is only in Lima once a week on Friday.

Now here is a great doctor for Internal Medicine. His name is Dr. Carlos A. Salazar he practices at Clinica San Felipe and charges s/. 350.00 if you do not want a receipt or s/.400.00 if you want a receipt. He also works with Peruvian insurance companies so you only pay your deductible. I first met Dr. Salazar 5 years ago and he was carrying the old fashion doctor's bag and I asked him why he was doing it and he explained to me that some Doctors here in Peru still do house calls including himself. I found that interesting. However, I was just hospitalized with a blood clot in my leg and he was able to dissolve the clot in just 2 days. My mom has Alzheimer's disease and it is the advanced stages and he made a lot of suggestions regarding her care that conform to the Alzheimer's Society in the US during a House Call. His charge for a House Call is s/. 500.00 Dr. Salazar spends half of the week working in a Clinic that serves the poor people of Lima and he could easily fill his office with paying patients but he told me we are commanded in the Bible to take care of the poor and he follows that command. He also has a wonderful sense of humor. A great Doctor, with a heart, and has a sense of humor. I highly recommend him. His office phone is 219-0000 or his cell phone number is 999-333-660 and his email is Caso90@gmail.com.

My name is Lloyd and I have worked in Lima for more than 10 years in the medical field, mostly with a dentist who uses advanced technology and focus's on complex rehabilitation cases (although they do regular stuff too!). My role is the marketing, insurance reimbursements and also providing A1 customer service which is important for the types of patients we treat.

However, over the years and through my line of work I have got to know a lot of other doctors in many different fields which is why I created Surgeryinperu, selecting the doctors I know and trust the most, those that have a nice chair side manner, great technology, experience, and of course that speak English well, too.

You can find some of those doctors here, http://www.surgeryinperu.com but if you don't find what you are looking for, please drop me a line anyway as I can probably help, or at least point you in the right direction :)

This includes:

- Dermatology
- Plastic Surgery
- Dentistry
- Ophthalmology
- General Medicine (a GP that does home visits)
- Physiotherapy
- Fertility Treatments

email, lloyd@surgeryinperu.com
Whatsapp & phone (0051) 999838477

Thanks!!

For folks who may be interested in functional medicine and the Bredesen protocol for Alzheimer's disease, there is a newly opened practice in San Isidro. Dr Gupta is a conventional MD in the US but he spends a few months every year in Lima. He is trained at the Institute for Functional Medicine and his practitioner profile can be found at https://www.ifm.org/practitioners/karan-gupta/. Website is http://www.dr-gupta.com
