What Do You Do For Work?

Postby rama0929 » Mon Sep 13, 2010 1:11 pm

I've been curious about expats in Peru. What do you all do for work? Are you a self starter/entrepreneur, are you a corporate transfer? Are you a teacher? Are you retired and are playing out the string there?

I go to the swimming pool, I make food, look after the house and the garden. Sit in my garden or go for a drive with my motorbike. I also sleep a lot. I live on my savings.
I got 1000 soles a month to spend. I am not rich but I feel very rich.

I own/run a software development company... we mainly build large web applications for tech startups to get them to their alpha/beta stage of their product.

As a part of that I've started various offshoot businesses like TweetSaver.com... and (because of my pain in trying to find an apartment in Lima while in the US) IncaRentals.com

I'm very interested in connecting with other expats who are doing internet businesses while in Peru so feel free to ping me!

I am a hotel manager in two family run hotels, and am starting up an online travelagent. But I don't really find the time nor energy to finish starting up.. It takes already 2.5 years to start up and I am still in the developing phase. I did get an expert in all kind of Sunat stuff, as I have to handle most of that myself, and have to supervise that part in the hotel.

Children are so brutally honest. My daughter wrote in nido on Father's Day: "My dad has blue eyes and loves to drink beer".

Cafe Z is closed down and we have not found a replacement "joint" to drink whiskey (and watch girls), so technically I would say "I am unemployed and looking" at this point! :D

It would be especially interesting if more expats had a profile photo... saying that, I respect everyone's choice, mine was something to do with an NDE, but then life is not static..

It's what's inside a person that counts... soul, personality... the importance of inner life, exploring our inner universe through introspection, reflexion, meditation, is the major lesson I learnt from the NDE, apart from being made conscious of the necessity to help others, even in small ways..

Well, over the years I'd been told by two different healers that I have the gift of healing, at the time I didn't take that seriously, although when I placed my hand on a few persons without giving it a second thought, one or the other mentioned their headaches or other pain had gone from that moment. I probably needed to work on myself, through inner development, gaining inner knowledge.. The NDE changed something in me in a subtle manner, and probably contributed to the fact that I now believe what they said, believe in my capacities and have started helping others through healing.

Let's try to keep this post a bit focused on what people do for work - if we can keep it a bit on topic, it could be quite helpful to others wondering how they can earn money while living in Peru.

I import industrial machinery from the U.S and Europe. So part of my job is to fly back and forth from my home in the U.S. and Peru. Throughout the year I spend 6 months in Peru, and 6 months in the U.S. Been doing this since 2000.
