Lucuma -- what do you think about this flavour ?

Postby windsportinperu » Sun Aug 25, 2013 5:06 pm

For the expats who still don't know about Lucuma, it is a fruit from Peru, that is used as an ingredient for ice-creams, cookies, birthday-cakes, and thing like that.

What is your voting about this - from 1 to 10.. ?

Some thoughts or experiences ?

I absoluely love the flavor of Lucuma and would give it 11 out of ten if that were at all possible, so will have to start the survey with a mere 10.
I make a wonderful Lucuma Pisco cream, much tastier and cheaper than anything you'll find in the shops. The problem is that it's extremely moreish and fattening, especially drunk over ice from a pint glass

Well, now we have two 11s... or 10s. On a hot day I love it as... oops, forget the Spanish name, "popsickle in a baggie". But windsportinperu, you don't get to vote?

Too tangy for my taste, but that's just me. Sorry.

I like a lot lucuma!!, winter time or summer time.. I like it in milkshakes and ice-creams. Even more when it is prepared with the fruit itself (no dehydrated version)

10 or 11 .. :)

Lucuma, "too tangy"
Are you not getting confused with Maracuya? or just using the wrong word.
PS. Maracuya, in my opinion worthy of another 11 points.

Oh sorry. Yes, it was maracuya that I was referring to. Apologies, esp. to the OP. :?

My family loves it, but I do not care for it. Will give 11 points to a maracuya thread!

It´s kind of an acquired taste..especially because the texture is kind of sandy, but I love it now... Especially as ice cream!

Love it, especially in ice cream or chocolate, or even ice cream with chocolate and lucuma.

Another 10 here.

Last year when my wife and I were visiting my family back in the states, we stopped in a small Peruvian deli type place and purchased a liter of lucuma ice cream for a whopping $15 (imported). I don't think either my father nor step mom really liked it, they'd probably give it a 3 or 4.

I'm not an expat, but if I may... I give it a 0. I'm sorry, I am one of those 1% of Peruvians who hate that thing...

Does anyone else think it tastes like maple? (I'm Canadian and maple syrup, maple ice cream and maple candies are common).

It's not my thing. I'm on Maracuya. Maracuya with Pisco, or even better Pisco with Maracuya

The yogurt of Lucuma made by big milk companies as Gloria is anything except Lucuma..

1 large, ripe lucuma
6 ice cubes
1 litre of very cold milk
a teaspoon of vanilla essence

Mix it in the blender... essence of lucuma milkshake. There's nothing better.

If you add a shot of Pisco, you'll find that there is

Here you have a recipe for preparing "Coctel de Lucuma" (including Pisco as an ingredient)

I may be a "guinea pig" for tasting it .. :)

The recipe is in spanish...

Hi guys

Greetings from England! I have just stumbled across this thread on the website and was hoping for a little help.
I have only just discovered Lucuma myself but am a huge fan....so much so that I want to launch a new brand of milkshakes here in the UK with Lucuma as one of the main ingredients.

My main issue currently is actually sourcing the Lucuma powder itself. I managed to get some from Amazon.co.uk which is produced by a company called Naturya but this was very expensive. I wondered if anyone would be able to give me any ideas about how to source the powder directly from either Peru or from any wholesales that there may be in Europe or ideally the UK.

I am really excited by the prospect of bringing the incredible taste of Lucuma to consumers in England but I really do need to find a more cost effective way of buying the powder.

I know this post is a long shot!

Thanks all and would be great to hear from you.
