Beaches in Lima

Postby sbaustin » Sun Jan 13, 2008 10:00 pm

At the bottom of my post is the text from the clean beaches report that someone else posted something about ( http://www.minsa.gob.pe/portal/ogcminsa ... odigo=5479). I enjoy a nice walk and swim on my work break and live close to the costa verde, but don't want to get sick.. I'm guessing that the entirety of the costa verde would be included in the "Miraflores" entry, but this is an assumption.. Does anyone know for fact if any of those beaches are OK?

Las playas que no deberían ser visitadas por los veraneantes por encontrase en mal estado son: Puerto Pizarro (Tumbes), Huanchaquito Norte y Sur, Buenos Aires Norte y Sur (La Libertad), La Isla, Puerto Chico, Miraflores, Chorrillos (Lima - Barranca), Puerto, Acapulco, Agua Dulce, Chancayllo (Lima - Chancay), La Punta - Malecon Pardo, I. Guilligan - Mar Afuera (Lima - Callao), Conchan, Pucusana, Bujama Norte (Lima - Sur), La Glorieta (Moquegua).

Thanks.

The Costa Verde is whatever you can see from Larcomar to the left and the right. Next the Rosa Nautica (the classy restaurant on the pier) you can do surfing, but the water is very dirty, thus not suitable to go for a swim. Moreover, the audience that goes to the Costa Verde beaches are mostly poor people who have a different standard when it comes to hygiene. In the 50s and 60s the Costa Verde was a place the elite would be going to, just like the elite was going in their finest clothing to downtown Lima. Nowadays the higher classes go farther away from Lima in order to enjoy the beach.

Hopefully this rash I picked up yesterday after swimming at the beach will go away! Just kidding.. Well that sucks, I guess I'll just stick to the sun instead of taking a dip in the water.

Playa Miraflores and playa Chorrillos are located in Barranca (200km north of Lima) and those are the places the Ministry of Health refers to, but I wouldn't suggest going to Costa Verde either

Getting information is difficult, but I found this (http://www.minsa.gob.pe/portal/ogcminsa ... &anio=2008) which states that at least two of the beaches on the costa verde are considered very good. Plus I think Club Regatas is on the costa verde too? I guess I'll just test it out for a couple weeks and I grow another eye or finger then you'll know not to swim here.

El Minsa informa que del total de playas, solo 17 han sido consideradas como muy buenas. La Laguna Las Albuferas (Huacho), Yacht Club (Norte), Redondo, La Estrella, Club Regatas Lima, Nº1 y Nº2 (Costa Verde), El Silencio, Caballeros, Playa Blanca, San Bartolo Norte "A" (Lima Sur), Santa María, Embajadores, Puerto Viejo - San Antonio, Club Regatas San Antonio, Totoritas, Asia y Los Cocos (Lima Sur).

Look really, I am not trying to be a snob but MOST beached in the entire Lima region are very dirty. Lima is a beautiful city but the beaches are not clean.

The beaches in the north of Peru (Mancora, Punta Sal) are clean and more beautiful than many of the beaches in Mexico or the Carribean.

I've heard the beaches are absolutely beautiful up North however to take a nice quick swim over a lunch break, the beaches on the costa verde are within walking distance. I can't wait to see some of the Northern beaches, hopefully in March or April.

There was a crowd at la costa verde today. lots of tablistas - not much sun.

I wouldn't swim or visit these beaches, personally. I would hop down to Km 30-ish on the PanAm Sur.

I typically stay away from the crowded parts. I walk down the bajada de armandariz heading towards magdalena/san isidro and cross as soon as I can. This is one of those rocky beaches and there aren't too many people there plus you don't get too sandy. I have no idea the name.

If you want to get away from the filth and thieves of the Lima beachfront without a lenthy trip you can get a taxi or bus to Playa Villa found in front of Club Villa coastside of La Encantada de Villa... You have the club security watching the beach so there is almost zero theft, the beach is just far enough south to be strikingly cleaner than in front of Lima and there are all sorts of drinks and food available... You might even see a famous politician, model, or media artist. The only drawback is that leaving much after 5 pm it may be difficult to get a taxi right out of the beach, you may have to walk the K and 1/2 out of the community.

I feel the northern beaches are the most beautiful in all of Latin America.
But I feel that it could never gain the popularity of the beaches of Mexico or other areas. The reason being is that the northern beaches are not lined with mega hotels like in other countries.

Also perhaps the reason why they're so clean and we can (sun)bathe in peace!

I love Playa Señoritas, it´s hard to get to, you have to go to Caballeros and walk over the hill that divides the two beaches.

Check it out
