did you feel the tremor?

Postby americorps » Fri Oct 28, 2011 2:03 pm

nice little bounce at straight up 2.

Anyone else feel it?

It seems it was a 6.9 off the cost of Ica

I did; first one I've actually felt in a while. It felt like it was "rolling" rather than shaking.

Yep, that was a good wobble, eh?
Also the first one i had felt in a long time. Some people even evacuated our building.
I don't think it was very big really. Any official stats?

I was in the dining room (eating) and barely noticed it, but the cook pointed to the fixture (in the kitchen) as she bolted out the front door. It was over in a flash and a few minutes later she brought out dessert.

Just after posting this (this being my previous post), we headed out to Serpost to pick up a package and they were discussing it on the radio. People down in Pisco were saying that the ocean had receded about 10 meters, and people with homes near the beach were moving to higher ground.

I was on the 10th floor, just about to go the door for the afternoon walk. When I realised what it was, I raced back to the bedroom for my new camera and wallet, (well you never know when a good picture or even a bad one might be worth something and I have a sense of priorities) but by the time I got back to the front door it was all over.
I also felt a small aftershock just before 7.00 p.m. but it was barely noticeable.

it was the strongest one i've been through here and i was reduced to wringing my hands and rapidly pacing around my apartment randomly like a chicken with his head chopped off.

The news says there was a bit of damage and dozens of injuries down in the Pisco/Ica areas.

This was the first one since the big one in 2007 I really felt and especially heard. Even though it was just a 4.8 one it was quite intense and the noise was horrible.

It was very close to Lima, apparently - and yeah, it did make a lot of noise. Seemed much stronger than it actually was.

I felt it rattle the house. Woke me up even though I was sleeping with earplugs in. It got the neighbor's dogs barking and then the neighbor yelling at his dogs for barking and then the neighbor's brother yelling at the neighbor for waking him up. And then the dogs squealing while the neighbor and his brother chased them around the house for a self-indulgent disciplinary beating. A fairly common chain of events in my little quinta, with or without an earthquake catalyst, which is why I sleep with earplugs in.

I feel an earthquake every 5 minutes. They are constructing a new via de evitamiento in my neighbourhood and 24h a day there are volquetes full of stones and sand racing at the carretera which lays 50 meters from my home.
