Expats start-up Busportal set to expand to Chile and Colombia in 2017

Building on their previous success, the Peruvian start-up Busportal, which won Telefonica’s Wayra Award in 2013 will expand next year into Chile and Colombia – The service was launched in 2012 by expat’s Hassan Bourgi (originally from Lebanon), and Carol Riboud (originally from France), who saw an opportunity when looking to buy their own bus tickets online. The duo noticed a gap in the Peruvian transport market for a service that provided customers with transparent information when buying bus tickets online, and over the last four years Busportal has become just that.

Busportal simplifies the purchasing of bus tickets online throughout Peru, and allows users to compare services and prices on offer to ensure they get the ticket that is of greatest value and convenience to them. The company currently works with over 40 affiliated companies, and covers 70% of land routes nationwide, and the website is available in English making it even easier for Expats to make travel plans around Peru.

Indian company Redbus, which has operations throughout South East Asia, and has just invested into the Peruvian start up, giving it the opportunity to expand internationally into Chile and Colombia. The expansion will start next year in line with the company’s rebrand, becoming Redbus Peru in the Peruvian market.
