Thanks Andrew, but my original post is 5 years old, my daughter outgrown the need for a lovely carpet and I doubt that it's worth that someone in Lima, OH ships a children's carpet to Lima, Peru. Have a nice day.
I wasn't talking about the 1991 law. There have been changes in between, probably not by law but by decreto or whatsoever. Probably ten years back you only got 90 days when arriving and then could extent your tourist visa at then called DIGEMIN (today Migraciones). Then in 2008 or so the rule 90 day...
Border hopping was never officially allowed or forbidden. The old law (sorry can't remember the number) allowed tourist to stay 183 days in the country leaving open if this is per year or per visit. This vagueness of the law made border hopping in Peru possible, neither really legal nor illegal. The...
Because they are from more wealthy countries and usually are more rich/educated and are not here to work illegally, So most of the time they contribute but not take up jobs/resources. So if you are coming from a rich country and contribute to the economy you are allowed to break the laws of your ho...
I absolutely agree with you. I never understood why it is ok and no big deal for North Americans or Europeans to overstay their visa or work without the appropriate visa in Peru while back home they considered those people illegals and everyone wants to get rid of them.
Honestly, I have read mentioned article and just scanned the new law as well and don't get it. For years now there have been temporal visas and residential visas; seems to me this isn't new, the process / execution / timeframes might differ. I don't get the part about volunteering. Peru never had a ...
I have a few question regarding applying for residency in Peru, I hope someone can answer. When you want to apply for a resident visa (cambia de calidad migratoria), do you still have to pay at Banco de la Nacion in person? Or is it possible to pay at an ATM / online banking? Anyone knows the "...
A few years back there were quite a few different Oktoberfests in Lima and Peru. When I remember correctly there was the “original” Lima Oktoberfest Peru Cusqueña , then the Oktoberfestival in Miraflores, the small ACAP Oktoberfest at Treff, an Oktoberfest in Cusco, Arequipa and Pozuzo, the Fiesta d...
Can't explicitly state anything for your driving license; but all foreign documents any authority in Peru asks you for have to have an Apsotille and have to be translated into Spanish.
not sure how big your dog is, but shipping dog food to Peru??? I lived nine years in Lima and had two dogs. In supermarkets you find at least 4 or 5 different brands. At the beginning I fed my dogs Pedigree and one other brand I can't remember the name; later I went to one of the numerous pet shops ...
Really? Do you think so? Sorry, I have to disappoint you. There are a few things I miss, sure; but no, right now there is nothing pulling me back to Peru soon. I'm actually very happy and content where I am right now
Lived over 9 years in Lima and even rode my bike on a regular basis ... and I'm still alive to now enjoy the Caribbean
Use you common sense, be a little bit more careful and observant and most important enjoy your half year in Lima ... it's a really great place to stay for a certain time.
As far as I know there is only one law in Peru regarding service dogs and this only aims at service dogs for visually impaired people. Just google Ley 29830 which establishes that assistance dogs are allowed to enter all public and private places incl. public transport. Be aware that people in Peru ...
A Peruvian company has to help a foreigner with the work visa / carné when they want to employ him / her. They have to sign a proper work contract with the foreigner, have to have all their SUNAT stuff in order, get the contract approved by the ministerio de trabajo and then help with the applicatio...
Sometimes you can find puff pastry at Wong (Av. Benavides con Av. Panama); but it's not deep frozen. They have it on the cooling shelves near the cream cheeses / masa para empanadas. The dough is already rolled out and packed in a flat plastic bag.

As soon your work visa is approved and you have your carné, you are a legal foreign resident in Peru. Then your husband can apply for a "Visa Familiar de Residente para el caso de casado con extranjera residente en el pais"; so a family visa based on being married to a foreign resident.
When I renewed my visa residente (married to a Peruvian) at the beginning of this year, they didn't want a Carta de Garantia, but a Declaracion jurada para prorroga de residencia de familiar. With this declaration the Peruvian spouse has to declare that he / she still is related to the foreigner and...
I've never seen almond butter or coconut flour in Lima and I fear you have to use the "normal" imported peanut butter. But in the past few years the organic market is slowly growing in Lima. Here a few markets and shops where you can get organic stuff: Mercados ⋅ Bio Feria Mirafl...
You will need a recent copy of your "Peruvian" marriage certificate; you can't apply with your UK marriage certificate any more. If you are married to a Peruvian and want to apply for your family visa in Peru, your marriage has to be registered either at a Peruvian consulate abroad (in you...
I'm waiting for my new passport as well and was also seaching how it works on the Migraciones website. Check out "Registro de Extranjeros" - Traslado de Sello http://www.migraciones.gob.pe/index.php/traslado-de-sellos-residentes-e-inmigrantes/ Seems to be an easy process without appointmen...
... 2 weeks only, ... Can anybody tell me if that is OK or what I should need to know / do in that situation During the processing time of you resident visa you are not allowed to leave the country. You can apply for a permission to leave Peru, but personally I think it's not recommended. Additiona...
As we are moving we have a few items for sale: mostly some household electronics, lots of power tools, action cam, sewing machine, big plasma monitor, stereo, small UPS, transformers 220V to 110V ... and of course my beloved plants. Check out http://www.mediaoff.com/4-sale.pdf to see the complete li...
Most of you surely know the website http://www.limaeasy.com, the online Lima city guide, my husband and I started 7 years ago. Due to a new job sending us abroad and a few other projects, we won’t be locals anymore and unfortunately won’t have enough time in the future to continue with LimaEasy. Eve...
We actually have the same problem: my husband will leave 5 or 6 weeks before me and I will travel with the kids alone. As the permiso para viajar is only valid 30 days, he can't get one before he leaves. So yesterday we went to a notary to check out other options. As fanning already described the pa...
Thank you so much for your lovely words, Alan. Honestly I will miss ExpatPeru. From the day we arrived in Peru to now 8 years later it was such a great source of information with an incredible community always willing to help and give advice. I hope you can keep up the great work you are doing here....
Thanks guys. I will get in touch with both and have them send me a quote. And just for information: the moving boxes with holes at the sides aren't common here. So I just bought moving boxes without at Sodimac. I found them quite expensive: box 60 x 40 cm was S/. 6.50, 60 x 60 cm was S/. 8.50 and th...
Oh yes that's sounds so familiar. :) There might be no difference when it comes to running shoes or climbing boots (which in Peru I bought in the mens section), but until now I never saw dress flats or high heels for men and think that mens dress shoes might look a bit funny with my suit or dress go...
I personally would add Inkafarma http://www.inkafarma.com.pe/ to your list. They were the only ones answering my mail when I was looking for a special medication.
Actually there is not a lot to say about canceling your resident visa. On the website of Migraciones you find the requirements. http://www.migraciones.gob.pe/index.php/cancelacion-de-residencia-y-ficha-de-salida-definitiva/ I think you only can stay a few days after your application of canceling you...
I'm not a coffee drinker, so can't participate in the discussion about tastiness. But why don't you get a Mucho Gusto coffee maker. You can buy the machine in different variations here and get these small cups with coffee in them that you put into the coffee maker in most supermarkets. I was told th...
All medication "imported" to Peru has to be registered with the Ministerio de Salud. That's at least what the law says. Exception: tourists can bring medication for their personal use into the country. Stay away from UPS, DHL, Fedex; they will give you trouble. If you are only coming to Pe...
I feel with you. I have shoe size 41 and it's nearly impossible to find shoes here this size or larger. A few month ago I found 1 (!!!) really nice pair at Payless Shoes at Angamos Plaza, sometimes the branch in Miraflores on Av. Larco near the Ovalo has women shoes size 41 and 42. The offer is very...
I always wondered for what Peruvians use tamarind that you can buy here as "block" or the fresh pods? I only know that lots of Peruvians make agua de tamarindo with it. Any other uses in the Peruvian kitchen?
A friend of mine would like to do some volunteer work for about 3 to 4 months at a rainforest or animal project. But it seems that for a lot of volunteer options in this area you have to pay 4 digit fees. Can anyone recommend a program / project where one can volunteer for free or at least onl...
