do apartments typically allow pet birds?

Do Peruvian landlords typically allow pet birds? Here in the US it's pretty unusual for a landlord allow them. It won't be in Lima. It would probably be in Trujillo, Cajamarca, or Huamachuco. Just in case that makes a difference.

who requests the criminal records?

I recently took a plea bargain for assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest (aka 'contempt of cop') charges. It was actually the cop who beat me up resulting in some serious injuries, but I had no proof of my innocence and was afraid the jury might believe him instead of me in a ...

Re: plugging things in to electrical outlets

for some reason (in the u.s.) radio shack guys know everything about everything - hopefully the same there. I hope you are either joking or haven't been back to the US in at least 25 years. Most computer power supplies are dual voltage. Usually it will actually tell you that right on the power supp...

Re: Questions about relationship with Peruvian woman

I just wanted to point out that living in Peru could end up being a very positive experience for the child. I only wish I had been exposed to different cultures at that age. I think I would have loved it and probably not have wanted to return to the US. I would also second Kelly's idea about spendin...

Re: Questions about relationship with Peruvian woman

I don't know about bilingual schools in Peru, but if you are really serious both you and your son should get started on your Spanish lessons immediately. Even if you do find a bilingual school it isn't much fun to live in a country where you can't speak the language well. It is very isolating. Espec...

Re: My Money

Capital One used to also have money market accounts with ATM cards that didn't have any fees. I don't know if they still do. I totally depend on those money market accounts when living outside the US. I'm also going to check out the Schwab thing. If anyone else finds more details about it I hope the...

What do you think of Cajamarca?

Have any of you been there? If you haven't been there have you heard anything about it? Do you think it would be a nice place to live? What is it like? Any opinions about the place would be appreciated.

Re: information about peru

Have you considered Colombia? Friendliest people on Earth, and if you like to party you will truly be in heaven. Famously beautiful women. Some of the prettiest women both per capita and individually, although they are anything but easy to get. The people get 10 on a scale of 1-10. Friendly, kind, a...

Re: cost of electricity per kwh

Okay. Thanks. And I did just find a post that answered my question. I searched, but I guess I didn't search long enough. There were just so many posts about total monthly electricity cost to get through to find it.

cost of electricity per kwh

Does anyone know what they pay for electricity per kwh? There are lots of estimates here for monthly electricity expenses but I couldn't find a single post with a per unit price. I'd really like to be able to use between 7500-15000 kwh per month. So those monthly expenses don't really help me.

Re: What would you change about Peru?

I don't understand why so many third world countries have trouble purifying their tap water. It's not rocket science. It's not like they are being asked to start their own space program and land a man on Mars. Maybe the government just sees it as too expensive.

Peruvian Spanish

I have lived in both Cuba and Colombia. I hated the Spanish in Cuba and loved the Spanish in Colombia. The Cubans dropped their esses and committed all kinds of other unspeakable crimes against the language. The Colombians spoke slowly and clearly like they were reading out of a textbook. It was inc...

Re: intercultural love relationship -- does it works ?..

Omikran, here in America women also expect you to make more money than they do. I have seen this in every country I have ever spent time in. Women expect you to be 'superior' in pretty much every way. They want you to have more money, be taller, stronger, smarter, better looking etc. They want to be...

Re: What would you change about Peru?

For those of you want more equality, you could help by giving away all of your money until you have the same income as the poorest Peruvians. Yes, that's just an implementation detail. And I know you guys are just magic wand wishing, but I don't think you guys are wishing for the right things. I'd r...

Re: Mysterious bites/allergy

I have a problem that is really similar. Except that my 'bites' don't itch. They hurt. And no one else living in the same house ever gets them. I've tried to solve the mystery for years with no success. Have you tried spraying pesticide in your house? I would recommend spraying your house with perme...

Re: safely leaving a property for 2-4 years

Well, as I said, I think I would get bored just staying in Peru for the rest of my life. My astronomy project may be the most important thing in my life at the moment, but it is not the only thing. If anyone else could understand that boredom with staying in one place I am betting it is other expats...

Re: safely leaving a property for 2-4 years

Think astronomy, not television programming. It would more or less be a radio telescope somewhere between 12 and 20 meters in diameter, depending on the costs and difficulties involved.

safely leaving a property for 2-4 years

I have found that i get bored living in the same place for too long. Bored and annoyed with all of the inevitable downsides that every location seems to have. But then after being away for a couple of years it all starts to seem nice again. To me that means it's time to go back! At least once you ha...

Re: Police bribery on Panamericana Sur

I don't mind paying bribes when they are reasonable or if they are exactly the same as the fine you would otherwise pay (and you know the fine). This assumes of course that you have actually done something wrong. Is it true about the lights thing? I wouldn't have paid $300 USD though for such a mino...
