Whether you are planning to move to Peru, or you are already living here, the Expat Peru forum is a great place to meet people and to find information. Welcome to our community!
A police report MUST be made, you must do a breath test ( which you have to pay for yourself, and will be brought to another policestation in a policecar for the actual test ) They will impound your car for at least a day, as a police 'pirito' has to check the damages and make that official. You wi...
Any Expat/resident in Peru is liable for tax on worldwide income. I would not be surprised if SUNAT starts going after tax residents (those who work and overstay their visa and those that work under the table and pay taxes in their home country). SUNAT lately is scrambling for ways to fill it coffe...
After some discussion and consultation with other staff they decided there was a category for me so they issued me a RUC and told me I'd have to pay tax on an annual basis based on my earnings over the calendar year. So in January my wife goes to their web site and enters all my earnings less deduc...
@fanning: OK but this is COMPANY, they are supposed to have accounting department etc. moreover a company usually pays more different taxes and usually pays a kind of "in advance tax" - stuff you are not supposed to do as individual. sorry but everywhere in the world where I was, you are s...
before I forget, one detail: I have two passports on different names (different nationalities), so there is no way for them to find out that I live here, if I come & leave - I won't pass more than 183 days on any of the passports. Would they ever assume I am taxable in Peru? Even if they investi...
Wow, thank God you don't spy on Americans. The same as Obama said.. Only spy on non-Americans, like that doesn't mean like the rest of the world. You happen to write on a Peruvian expat forum, not necessarily exclusively filled with USA citizens. Europe also didn't seem to pleased about that commen...
@fanning I still cannot believe what you say... if I should ever take them for serious, THEY MUST calculate you the amount to pay, they MUST give you a sum to pay and a date for the payment. This is how it works in any NORMAL country. If this is really like you say, that I am responsible to calculat...
because my wife is peruvian and she wants to study - she has not that easy access in US to the university (besides the costs in US). So basically it is due to my wife - me alone won't be here in Peru - no way. I know better places
Can you let us know if you are a legal resident (with carnet) or a tourist? not yet having the CE but my wife is peruvian. Honestly I am going to receive a contract with NSA (not kidding you) and I wonder if it is worth ever the game in Peru or is that better for me to take my wife with me to US. I...
In Peru the taxes basically work as follow. There are laws, you are supposed to know, you pay before a date you are supposed to know, if you pay late, you include the interest amount, that you yourself calculate based on formulas you are supposed to know. If you make a mistake, and they find it out...
Kind of ironic that you talk about getting lost in lawless Peru, then go on to ask whether you should just work under the table here. my experience with police was they always ask for money or try to cheat me - WHY I should believe SUNAT is something else? I'm not saying there are no laws in Peru b...
You can't be sure of anything and you can probably rest assure you'll be paying taxes somewhere.  typo? "rest assure"? what do you mean? Am I right assuming SUNAT is a wh*rehouse here in Peru? Nothing is sure besides the multa? My experience with police was very bad......
The question was HOW I do it practically.... do I need to register a RUC or what? Or I tell them at the end of year that I gained XXX .... I expect SUNAT to be as corrupt as the Peru Police - everything is possible. How can I assure they will not come with multas just to grab my money? anyone here d...
Hi what would be the official way to work for foreign company in Peru? A company that has no offices in Peru (e.g. only in US) and wants to hire me? It won't be work for receipts but a regular contract (so I do not bill them for doing some work units, e.g. this month I do X hours and bill them XX, n...
yeah it is like this in Peru.... most of the owners offer you completely shitty department (that would be rather a demolition case in any "normal" country around the world) and expect you pay them the money on time but refuse to treat you like their client - fix something? forget it... you...
@chichi I doubt we can recover the money because we already left the flat. The only thing we can do is doing damage to him via SUNAT & INDECOPI - but this goat prefers to loose money (and then probably take more from next renter) than to give something back. He is not subscribed to SUNAT, neithe...
Today we saw his declaration at the police. Basically he said that in our contract we are only permitted "normal consumption" of water and that the consumption was over limit. He was asked where was the problem with the water pipes - he responded that "he ASSUMES it was in our apartme...
we wait until the second chance the police gave to him - if he does not come, then GAME OVER for him. if he comes, they will query him about all the items on the list that he sent to us - they will make a protocol what he says and he must show evidence "ok I did this work in THEIR apartment and...
we did a complaint at the police, they summoned him but he did not come to the appointment with the police LOL. We did also a consulta (without yet making a formal complaint) with SUNAT - he did not pay anything.... I start to think that guy is on drugs...
to give you an idea what this ***** is doing with us, I show you the list he sent us http://s22.postimg.org/m7uh73yup/img_1.jpg http://postimg.org/image/l5kaokg19/ he inflated totally the costs of everything. OK we did add water to these two plants, that one is reasonable, and he DID a maintenance ...
well, he will need to prove that it was actually us, if something happens. I think I will go for the "columbian mafia" option - we know the people. Too dangerous to do it myself (not in the sense he will do something with me, but the eventual trouble with police later). However, if you hav...
Well, my peruvian GF continued to pay him, I wasn't here for 2 months due to business issues. I was asking her how does she feel about the landlord, will he return the deposit etc etc. and she was very comfortable with him, saying he is still correct and she is not seeing any problem coming when we ...
I HAVE the option, that I will go with police to his house and they will cry at him and take him to the comisaria (I have a very good wire to them), they will enter a denuncia against him into the system too... however I do not really know, if that will be enough to scare this bas****. another optio...
always the perpetual problem with security deposit... My ***** landlord does not return the security deposit - he says that there was water leak in our apartment and he tries to charge all costs of SEDAPAL to us, that revised his house (because there was a water leak but in the tubes to the house). ...
This is my experience here.... you can add more items to this list. * the quality of buildings and apartments can only be classified as a joke. Take just the doors they have everywhere in the apartments. Cheapest hinges, badly fitted, do not close, not even slightest noise isolation * same for the w...
Hi looking for some good satellite over Peru that offers a good mix of free (without decoder card) TV stations - if you ever lived in Europe you know what I mean with Hotbird/Astra. Anything over here, where I can point to the dish and receive an acceptable mix of TV stations? In my opinion the bund...
Well that would be ridiculous if I couldn't.... anybody can invest in Peru, even non residents right? It is not necessary to even have a bank account in Peru to make an investment - goods can be paid by cheque or in cash, or the real estate company or notary may "borrow" his account for do...
if I am on tourist visa and rent an apartment for longer period of time, can I contract the usual services like Internet / phone etc in my name? Or is it indispensable to have the peruvian CE to do that? anyone knows?
any one knows, whether the carnet de extranjero can only be done in Lima? If I live in a province, do I need to come to Lima for all the stuff with Interpol etc, or is there local (per province) office to do all that?
For $600, you can find a very nice place in Lima. yes I suppose... however in most of the ads they ask much more than 600... maybe they ask 1000 but mean 500? Just trying to figure out.... The vast majority of the offers in 'good' areas (like close to the coast) are in the range 1000 and up... too ...
Hi I have a question: can a foreign company invest (buy real estate or commerce) in Peru without partnership / ownership of a peruvian company? Many countries limit possibilities of foreign companies, e.g. in Brazil it is not possible without opening a brazilian "branch" of your company......
Hi people, looking for apartment to rent in the price range ~600 USD, for two people, washing machine is a must, Internet a plus. Not need to be Miraflores - but something safe, preferably Surco, Surquilo, Chorillos coast... (anything between Miraflores and Chorillos) contract for one year. send any...
Hi I have questions regarding documents required for marriage for a dual national (with 2 passports). I'm national of Romania and France, so I have two passports, however I'm born in Romania, so my birth certificate is of course romanian only. In France I was naturalized about 20 years ago and durin...
in fact the air smells worse than the exhaust of an average European car (maybe besides Dacia, but well.... you won't buy a Dacia to breath from the exhaust). So, I would say, staying in Lima shortens your life pretty a lot... like 5 years of life for 1 year in Lima?
arrived in Lima and I must admit I'm really unhappy about the air quality - is much worse than in any city I have seen so far. Is this level of pollution normal in Lima? Or just summer phenomenon?
The owner is supposed to pay a tax on the rental income. You can ask him if he paid for it and ask for the receipts. If he didn't pay it then you can tell him that you will report him to SUNAT if he doesn't pay your deposit back. This helps generally in all cases. it is typical... the only thing th...
If you live there in Peru, you know that the only way to get money back is to use some rude methods... sorry to say that but I'm afraid it is the only way.
Well, she has a bar in Lima, so she has some turnover there, maybe she has no bank account, but for sure some income. And she has a house in Brazil, however it does not matter as long as she is in Peru. I would prefer a way without justice if you understand... because as you say yourself, this is no...
it is a she, she is Brazilian and living there illegally, and moreover, she is sought by an arrest order from Spain and has penal register in Spain... just to explain the situation.
So I doubt she can win anything in a peruvian court - but maybe I'm wrong...?
Hi, I'm looking for a good way to recover money from a person living in Lima, it is not a peruvian but lives there. Any idea how to do that? I would also go for some south-american type of collecting things, if you know a good address to go for that... let me know please, if you have a good idea. th...
Hi people, I'm new here. I plan a visit to Lima and have offers for renting flats in Lima, but I do not know how safe are these places. While I know already South American cities (Brasil, Uruguay), I've never been before to Peru. Can someone tell me about the district of San Miguel, is it safe? (blo...
