Re: WHERE DO "THEY" GO???

Another realistic possibility is a service the isp's use. Spamhaus.org A couple times a year our work email just......goes nowhere. It has nothing to do with the intended recipient. It's a mid way layer that is the culprit. You can go to the site and get off the blacklist. How I ever got on it every...

Re: GRIIIIIIIIIINGOOOOOOOO

I'm in Trujillo right now escaping Canadian cold and couldn't care a less about hearing that term. I think today I referred to myself as such. I don't care. Sure the tone sets the stage as to being offensive or not. But really. I'm in Peru. Enjoying all that is Peruvian. If someone wants to offend m...

....and there it is. The morality/problem with north American people. <sigh>
Go for it. Let her get her green card. Let society pay after you make off with "lots of cash".
After all, it's not like your country has any fiscal cliff problems......

A little further north.....my stomping grounds of Trujillo has aparantly increased a lot in crime. Last Xmas 2011 was my 5th trip. I leave on the 19th for my 6th trip to Trujillo. So I have some historical first hand experience. The barrios of Molina and Alto Trujillo are kinda "slums" wit...

Re: Best Banks and Why?

I have a story. Having returned to Canada after living in the USA for 14 years, I decided to open a Scotiabank account in Canada knowing that I would be moving to Peru sometime in 2013. Scotiabank (a Canadian bank) advertises no ATM charges in any country where there ATMs/branches are located. I as...

Re: taking money out of Peru and $1000 note info

Re wire transfer, my wife just sort of tested the waters and transferred $1000 online from Royal Bank of Canada (Caribbean branch) to Scotiabank in Lima. It went through in a day or so alright, but only $950 got credited to her Scotiabank account. And that's on top of the $45 that RBC charged her. ...

Get a magic jack. We have 5 in Peru. 4 with Canadian #'s ($10 extra per yr) and one with USA #.
Cordless phone attached. It's awesome. They can call out to any CDN or USA # for free also

Re: Transfering funds to Peru

Hmmm..I'll have to look into that. I send S/.1000 every month to Trujillo for the projects I sponsor and any savings would be welcomed. Scotiabank to scotiabank was a disaster. The Peru side took way too much admin charge or whatever they classed it as. I was thinking of setting up another Canadian ...

Re: Transfering funds to Peru

This all sounds entirely troublesome. I'm glad I travel from Canada. I go to the scotiabank in Trujillo with my two different debit cards and withdrawal either soles or usd. No fees. 300usd a day. Each card. If I want more faster then I go online to scotiabank and western union to myself. Pay about ...

Re: Round Trip...or One-Way???

As always, experiences are often different from poster to poster. As a Canadian tourist, I have flown into lima, not had return ticket, not had onward passage, not showed proof of funds. Sometimes ask where I am going. Trujillo. Stamp passport. Away I run. And never been asked by any airline. I coun...

Re: Living abroad for Peruvians is hard

As a Canadian, I found several things, um.....challenging. We Canadians love to wait in lines. Peruvians....don't. Nuff said. I found it frustrating to have to go here and there and finding nothing along the way. In Canada we pick up the phone and call a business first. Exchanging money. I don't min...

prospects of a return on a tree farm?

a year ago a Peruvian friend needed a loan and i "bought" the next cut off a tree farm that his family has. Every 4-7 years they used to sell the standing timber for S/.1.50 each and then that company harvested the trees, hauled them to market and made all the money. now maybe nothing come...

When my family was living in Trujillo, we DHL a pkg from Canada. NyQuil cough syrup. Tampons. Gravy mix. I think a tee shirt and an odd thing or two. The DHL freight was over $100 and then it got stuck.... We were supposed to go and get some letter from some Dr. or some health authority or something...

Magic jack seems to work good for us. While we live in Canada, my friend Meras family all have magic jacks. Her mom has a cordless phone I sent (new power adapter required for Peru) so they are not tied to the computer. She can walk around the house and do anything. We paid for the Canadian number s...

Re: Just returned from Peru and have a couple of questions.

During my 5 trips to Peru, I keep finding better and better ways to manage money. While your mileage may vary, I disagree about not paying in dollars re: exchange rate is low. My school build and comedor build involved 100's of invoices. Sodimac. Lunches. Maestros. Etc etc. I always carry both. Gett...

I lived in Trujillo from October 2009 to January 2010 in the centre, on Bolivar. Then in Huanchaco until march 2010. My wife, son of 14yrs, daughter of 16yrs old. We walked around at night with other gringos as well as locals. Took yellow taxis that we flagged down on the street. Even walked ALOT in...

I think you will find she does. As a resident of BC, and having a Peruvian friend/employee that has travelled into Canada several times on a multiple-entry visa, our experience would say otherwise. And being that all boarding gates at YVR are on the other side of customs/immigration, there is nothin...

Re: Applying for a visitor visa to Canada.

Sorry. If you are a Peruvian citizen, it won't happen. While living in Trujillo for 6 months I made good friends. Upon return to Canada I wanted to have a friend come visit. There was no way. Especially since April 2011 the rules got even tighter. I ended up getting a work visa for her and she has b...
