I´ve been propositioned for drugs....but nothing else. That being said....having lived here for 6 months....and having visited Lima more than 20 times prior to this....calle de los pizzas HAS cleaned up from what it was years ago. I would also look at Scotiabank. I believe Scotiabank has a partner bank from Australia (Westpac)? If it does, may be cheaper to do transfers.

It is always better to go with a big name company for an international door to door move. Hamburg Sud, Maersk, Kuehne Nagel or Schenker are some big names operating in Peru. With smaller companies...especially smaller companies NOT based at destination....you are essentially taking a risk...not only...

Mammamia....you do not say what country or countries you are going to....but BBVA is a pretty big bank and a lot of the big banks have partners in various countries around the world where you can make withdrawals free or with a nominal charge. hey chi chi....i asked for 180 days in English...he looked at me blankly...I then said in Spanish that i would like 180 days if possible as I am planning to travel all over the country....and he then gave it to me :D

hey everyone....just wanted to say thanks for all the input----i ended up getting 183 days....so i am happy! As a few people stated earlier though, it seemed my agent did not speak English.....but he clearly understood my broken spanish.....cheers

I was in Antofagasta a couple of years ago and thought it was kind of ugly (as opposed to Arica, Iquique, La Serena and my fav in Chile----Valparaiso). I felt safe though and walked around quite a bit at night with friends.

When I was in Chile, some Chileans made the comment that now since so many Peruvians are in STG, the city has crime and is dirtier. I argued with one of these people (which is a friend) but that is indeed what I heard.

I cannot comment from the experience of living in Peru....because will only start to do that in December....but although there were aspects of living in the USA that I liked...there was a lot I absolutely hated. Chi Chi....I am Canadian and until I went to the USA to live, I never saw houses and stores barred. In the USA, MANY homes in wealthier areas have bars and high walls. Some of these areas have very little crime (at least announced). You also see this really in most other countries...so is not really...
