Re: Stuck in the Visa Process (to the US) for my Peruvian Husband

My family, friends, and dog live there. :D Plus, I make a good living there and I actually like the culture and the city I live in (Seattle).

Re: Stuck in the Visa Process (to the US) for my Peruvian Husband

We have a interview set up for next week, so that appears to be normal. The DOS will be taking over pretty much everything. There's no telling how this will affect wait times. I guess we just have to wait and see. Are you wanting to go to the US? Yes, I'm on the last leg of my permanent residence a...

Re: Work remotely while living Peru

Except not really though. I see why you'd think that, but most countries in fact do not check or care where your money is coming from, especially developing countries (what we are talking about here) and especially not small amounts. In fact, most don't even require a visa application either (depend...

Re: Work remotely while living Peru

I mean yeah, although the requirements would be for each host country to decide. But for the countries I mention those people are already there, living and working and spending their money, so probably the list wouldn't be much longer. I wasn't saying just pay the fee, although the fee would be good...

Re: Work remotely while living Peru

This is what so-called digital nomads do. But no, I have never heard of a visa category, from any country, that is specific for that situation. Maybe they will be a thing in the future as people become more location independent. I know a lot of people would rather pay the country a fee for, let's sa...

Re: Stuck in the Visa Process (to the US) for my Peruvian Husband

Oof. What about interviews and stuff? For immigration, not tourist visas. I had my interview in September and I'm about to file an I-601. Presumably, I would need to have another interview after the I-601 goes through. I thought it was USCIS that handled green cards.

Re: Lima Peru and the best Airport in LATAM during 2019 !

Alan, the consensus from everyone is that the food inside the Airport is very expensive. The good news is that in the future Jorge Chavez Airport will be transformed into an Airport City, a unique idea in LATAM. This will offer more options including all kind of restaurants and this could drop the ...

Re: Lima Peru and the best Airport in LATAM during 2019 !

While that is good news for Peru, I have a few bones to pick with JC: 1- Cab drivers harassing you and following you around. 2- ID checks at the door? Never seen this anywhere else in the world. Also, security guards make you go out the door and come in from a different door, instead of just walking...

Yeah, it's just that driving in Lima is maddening, but you'll get used to it. Not sure about dash cams but I've never heard they aren't. I think one Uber I rode recently had a dashcam, come to think of it. Rent prices are crazy indeed. I think you will find out that a lot of things are almost as exp...

I was there last month and really enjoyed it. Good food, reasonable prices, much cleaner than Lima. Close to Moquegua (sunny year-round), Ilo (great seafood) and Arica. Yeah, lots of Chileans coming to shop, get dental work, new glasses, etc. Besides that, a lot of cheap imports because of the port ...

That's a damned shame. I did some digging around and found out that some people in Centro are selling what they claim to be CBD oil  :D Could have been a valid claim. Very walkable district, great shopping centers and mercados, plenty of eating out options. Safe. Mid-price point, cheaper than the fancy districts but jus...

The job sites I check regularly (with little luck  ) are CompuTrabajo, Bumeran and Indeed. Add a .com.pe after each.

If this is for your residence, as opposed to a business, then Alan said it better than I can. Ask your neighbors, put the word out, let it spread through the grapevine.

People just don't drink enough real coffee for us to have a competitive market. Most people just drink instant coffee, especially in the provinces. Western Union can transfer straight to an account in the US. I have confirmed this at the Plaza San Miguel location, although they specified you have to go to the "central office" in La Mar Ave. (nearby).

Re: Why are most people in lima rude? Or close minded..

It is my distinct impression that Limeños are, on the average, needlessly rude. I think this stems from a culture of defensiveness that makes them build psychological walls. Just look at how fortified the houses are. Crime is high, but we ain't in Ciudad Juarez. There's a degree of paranoia and with...
