Re: Peru - Big Decision!

First step is to get your passport and make a trip. My first trip to Lima was for 10 weeks and I was ready to come back to U.S. I have now made 5 trips of 2 to 5 weeks and I am trying to decide how to move to Lima. It is totally different, but I now love it there. I find less stress (unless you driv...

Re: Cost of living in Peru

Shouldn't we go back to the original topic: "Costs of living in Peru" ? What I'm reading lately has little or nothing to do with this topic ..... A business school in Lima had advertised salary of high profile management professors as $210,000 dollars. They claim that they pay Soles 210,0...

Re: Cost of living in Peru

I really like to read this thread as it is. Most of my trips I only go to Lima, but I enjoy seeing the different cost of living as long as it is stated what area they refer to. As far as different threads, you could break Lima down into several areas, and I would lose interest in all of them.

28 for women. And lots of people do Public transport. It's not. There are fare takers who change the fares and no regulations. Not even a bus schedule I am in no way trying to disagree with you, but on the other side of the Public transport. I live in Miami area, the one way cost of bus is $2.00, t...

Re: Cost of living in Peru

As someone stated earlier, we have to be fair to the newbies and be crystal clear what money can buy in Lima. Too many posts I've seen could be interpreted as saying that for $500/month, you could live a comfortable middle class life (Miraflores or Barranco-style neighborhood, eating out often, tak...

Re: Cost of living in Peru

I have learned that when I go to Lima I do the same as I do in Miami. The only cash I take with me is what I will need in the airport and for a taxi if no one is picking us up. When I buy in a store, I use my Visa. I use the ATM at the bank to keep a little spending money on me for the lunches (5 so...

We would like to spend several months each year in both countries. Will she be able to collect while we are in Peru, and is there a time required for us to be in the US? I do not believe there are any travel restrictions. Arrange to have direct deposit into your bank and then withdraw by ATM. If yo...

I just read all above and think I understand. My wife and I are both 62 and I just started getting my SS. My wife who is from Peru will start getting SS on me in Jan. We have been married 3 years, living in the US for last 2 years. We would like to spend several months each year in both countries. W...

Re: party venue

Come on everyone, either no one is reading or they just don't want to post. Every time I have been to Lima I see parties everywhere. Tents in yards, in parks, in the streets. I don't know where or how, but there are people that will do everything from catering, to setting up tents and parking cars.

Re: Marriage Visa in Two Months??????

Another question in same area. My wife is from Peru, we live in Florida, when we go to Peru it is only for 2 to 3 weeks at a time. I am retiring soon and want to spend more time in Peru. Can the paperwork you are talking about be done from here in Miami, or do I have to wait till I am in Peru to app...

Re: Long distance telephone alternatives-Help!

I have a Miami number, but you can get numbers in many cities. I use Yahoo voice, it is a little less than Skype and I have been very pleased with it. They work like Skype so you can make outgoing calls which I use here in the US to call family in Peru. For $2.49 a month, I have a local Miami number...

Re: WHEREVER YOU ARE FROM

On my first visit to Peru after 3 weeks, it seemed that the time to leave would never come. After returning to Kentucky, I began to miss my time in Peru, and could hardly wait for my next trip. Each time I return to Peru I spend my time trying to figure out how to afford to stay full time. The probl...

When in Peru,

On my first visit, I found that I was craving food and things from the US too. I searched high and low to find items I knew, the prices were outrages. When I came back to the US I found that they weren't as good as I thought they were and began missing the fresh food at the markets, and the low pric...

Yes, by all means go to http://www.visajourney.com. I went through the same thing starting about 3 years ago. I tried the same thing a few years ago and found the postage to be more than the item. If you advertise the price of your item including postage it will sometimes be even less that a person can buy it where they live.
