Same advice on the equipment ... I've only had green lights, so no issues.
Since you are coming from Toronto - there are Scotiabanks on every 2nd street corner in many parts of Peru (not in Iquitos, tho) and ATM charges were negligible when withdrawing from my Canadian Scotiabank accounts.

what about mailing it back to your US bank for deposit and withdrawing the cash through an ATM in Peru? And then use the cash to open a Peru bank account. Can you set up your cheques for future direct deposit so you don't have to go through this hassle again? FWIW, US banks tend NOT to cash foreign ...

Sorry for jumping in on this thread ... but all official information says that visitor visas are good for 90 days and now I am reading some anecdotal information that they are 183 days. Has the 90 day rule changed?
