To answer your question...YES, YES, YES!
We covered this topic many time before so I am not getting into it.

Re: Should we move to Peru?

I did what your thinking about doing. We sold all our belongings, let the house go into foreclosure, and packed the kids up and headed to peru. Planned for everything except health problems, kids and I couldn't adjust to the constant humidity and pollution (Lima is bad for people with asthma issues)...

Re: Lima air quality

Its because of the air quality that my family and I had to leave Peru. While in Lima, my children were plagued with upper respiratory problems. As for myself, I had to use an inhaler just to breath and I do not have any history of asthma. Now that we are back in the states, everything is somewhat no...

Re: Homesick

I was the exact opposite. Seeing the beautiful green grass and trees with the multitude of flowers always brightens my day. Being able to drive with the window down and not having the noise or pollution is a joy to me. Actually using a public restroom that that has toilet paper and towels is always ...

Re: Considering a move to Peru

Not the storm we have been experiencing lately. I live in the midwest and woke up numerous times last night thinking the roof was going to come off the house. When we were in Peru, I told my wife that what Lima needs is a good storm to clean away all the black soot on everything.

Re: Safety in Peru

I went through the same thing. It was like mass paranoia. It got to me after a while, everyone being scared. Always thinking that the worse is going to happen. I could never comment about it because I did not live there long enough to prove them right or wrong.

Re: Baby/Child in Dual Language Household

My wife's native language is spanish. She would speak to the children in English but with a heavy accent. I feel this caused troubles for our daughter and she had difficulty with her pronunciations. We ended up putting her in speech therapy for a few months(age 4). She is speaking fine now and at th...

Re: Struggling to adjust to life in Lima...

Reading this thread has been a great help for me. I have been struggling with my decision to leave Peru a little over a year ago. I continually come back to this website in effort to find closure. Leaving was not easy for me because I had to face failure. I tried so hard to make it work but ultimate...

Re: Struggling to adjust to life in Lima...

I was in your shoes not too long ago...minus the girlfriend issue. After months of frustration, I had to sit down and ask myself what I was doing. I came to the conclusion that Peru was not for me. No matter how much I tried to sugar-coat it...it just wasn't working. The thing that got me the most w...

Re: How Prevalent is Getting Sick...

What got us the most was the upper respitory infections. It felt like we were going to the doctor every other week for brochitus, ear infections, severe colds. The high humidity along with the pollution played a major factor. We went so far as to do the whole "never drink cold liquid", &qu...

Re: Has anyone just up and moved?

My wife and I did it. We are working professionals with a degree and we thought we could at least find something. After 6 months of searching, no one would let us in the door. Or they would let us in the door and we would have to work 60 hour weeks for peanuts. Don't forget, there are other adjustme...

Re: Exporting my Dog to the US

If I'm thinking right, this is a rather small dog. We brought one home earlier this year. Brought it as a carry-on with American Airlines. No problem, actually nobody knew we had a dog until we got off the plane. With AA, you have to call in and reserve a spot (they only allow 2 animals on board per...

Re: I just came back from Peru - $$

This thread is so sad. Its seems to me that carguy is only worried about how far his buck will go. I don't think he realizes that it is at the expense of others who just scrape by with barely enough money to feed the family. If I was Peruvian, I would take offense to this. His comments reflects the ...
