Re: HELP! Real Estate Tax Question

THANK YOU to those that responded with information. That was very helpful. Your thoughts confirmed what I thought I was reading online.

We are in the process of selling now. Hopefully in a few more days we will have the apartment sold. I so appreciate your input.

HELP! Real Estate Tax Question

I am in the process of selling an apartment in Lima. I had to leave Lima, very quickly 4 years ago due to major health issues. I was a resident of Peru for about 15 years. I had a carnet. I purchased the home in August of 2004. I have of course lost my carnet long ago since I was not in country, and...

Large Apartment for Sale

Greetings everyone! My wife and I were missionaries for 15 years in Lima. In 2014, we had to leave Peru because of severe health problems. My wife is now in need of a liver transplant and we will no longer be able to return to Peru to live permanently. We have a nearly 1700 square foot (165 sq. mete...

Re: Return Flights

About four years ago I had one way tickets on LAN from Miami into Lima. I was called up to the desk and asked about the one way tickets. We had expired carnets. Thankfully, they did not notice they were expired and welcomed my family on to the plane. I was ready to purchase one way, refundable, retu...

Re: 25w 110V light bulb in Lima?

Correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have been told, lamps are not really 110 or 220, it's the bulb that matters. So I believe you can pick up any 220 bulb that will fit and plug it directly into the 220 outlet and you should be good to go. I am almost positive that is the case. You may want to...

Re: Permit for tinted windows Peru

Wow, I am glad to see someone else post about the Serenazgo lights. They drive me absolutely insane! They can actually provoke migraines for me. I have a daughter with epilepsy and so we also have her covering her face and closing her eyes when they are near. She detests them. I have often thought o...

Re: Permit for tinted windows Peru

I am going to share some "second hand" information here. I have heard this from several friends that have tinted windows and have gone through the process. I believe it is accurate. I believe you get the permit and it is good for two years. You have to renew every two years. The permit is ...

Re: English Speaking Dermatologist

I highly recommend Dr. Alejandro Morales he has an office in Miraflores and in La Molina (near Camacho) He speaks great English. He has many years of experience and is well respected. I have a friend that had major skin cancer issues and Dr. Morales' quick action probably saved his life. When he ret...

Re: Legalisation of documents and the Apostille Treaty

Assuming I understand your question correctly: Yes, in my experience recently they have accepted documents with an apostille. My two daughters birth certificates from 2 different U.S. states were accepted with the apostille attached. It was much simpiler than going the old route to have them legaliz...

WOW, let me say that I obviously did a terrible job of communicating what I was trying to say. It is very obvious after reading all these comments. Don't get me wrong. I love America. I love Americans, I think it is the best country on earth. While it may not be perfect, it does the best in so many ...

OK Kelly, please excuse me if this is re-opening a can of worms. Feel free to delete this if it causes to much nastiness! I wanted to comment on some recent posts on here. I have lived in Peru for the last 10 years. I am a red-blooded American from the deep south! I have grown to have a real love fo...

Re: Specifically magazine subscriptions

Well I can tell you what has happened in our experience. For about five years we had National Geographic sent directly to us here in Peru. (Ordered from NG and mailed directly by them.) The international subscription rate was fairly expensive but we enjoyed it. They always arrived in a timely manner...

Re: Vonage or How to keep a US Tel Number in Peru

I use a company called Teleblend. We have used them here in Peru for about 6 or 7 years. The quality is great and people can't believe that it is a VOIP connection. We pay $15.30 per month for unlimited calls to the US. They also have a plan for about the same price that gives you free calls to many...

Re: Migraine Medications

Actually Kelly I have asked for the 100 as well. They have none. Apparently it is not being shipped to Peru at all right now. Each farmacia has told me that they've been out for more than a month. I may have to have some shipped down from the states. Gives me a headache thinking about it...

Migraine Medications

Hello All, I have recently had trouble finding Sumatriptan (also called Imigran, Imitrex) here in Lima. I have checked with a dozen pharmacies and they all say "es agotado." Anybody else having a similar problem? Any suggestions where this medication can be found. I usually take a low dose...

Re: Directv...NO FoxNews now??

Well, I sent in a complaint to Directv. Unfortunately I am not done with my contract so I won't be able to cancel. But I made it clear that I will not recommend their service, nor will I keep it if they don't renew with Fox News. I happen to think the political coverage on Fox News is the best. With...

Re: Directv...NO FoxNews now??

Actually Kelly I do enjoy USTVnow.com I actually heard about it here on expatperu. When I saw it I thought there had to be a catch. I was expecting a limited time offer, or terrible image, or even worse constant ads or popups. It has been great. I can't say I watch it much because of the need to hoo...

Directv...NO FoxNews now??

Directv users...Anyone else noticed that Fox News is now gone? UGH! Now we have no American news channels. Even though I know fox is not really "unbiased" I still enjoyed having it as an option. Now we're stuck with another LA news channel. Any chance we can all complain and see if they'll...

Speaking of exchange rates, can someone help me with a "math question." I'm not known for being real bright! :D When we arrived in 2002 the exchange rate was 3.45 soles to the dollar (or even better) I recall getting 3.61 one time. How do I figure how much money I am "losing" on ...

Re: Customs rules and Laptops

Well, let me add a few more custom questions: 1. Do the rules apply per-person or per family? For example, if a family of four, 2 adults and 2 children come, can we get away with 2 laptops, 2 nooks (e-readers), 2 portable DVD players? 2. Can we split up and look like we are not together? One parent ...

I would highly recommend purchasing a dehumidifier. We bought one a few years ago and it totally eliminated the mold problem in our home. We have a 160 sq. meter apartment and the one unit seems to handle the entire apartment. During the day we try to open all the shades/curtains to let light in, an...

I am a missionary and have to be out of Peru for more than 183 for a furlough. We will be gone about a year. I did some checking. (I also sat in a very long meeting about this topic lead by DIGEMIN.) You can get permission to be out longer. However, the cost for doing this is more than starting over...

Re: International Flight Prices

You will not believe me, but in November, I bought roundtrip tickets LIMA-MIami on LAN for $235 TOTAL! No Joke. I shopped everyday for weeks until I saw that price. I ran to a travel agent the same day and bought them. (The next day they were $885.) The key was I looked way in advance. I bought in N...
