selling house in Peru whilst living abroad

I sold my house in Peru. I used a real estate agent. In Europe, it's common to use a real estate agency but in Peru it's something new. My gf was a bit wary. It took some time to sell my house. I've put it up for sale in 2014 and sold it in December 2016. The agent asked for a S./ 10.000 Commission....

Re: pulpa de frutas

I would like to fly home with some fruit purees (lucuma, maracuja, etc). Is Makro the only source (frozen 1 kg. bags)? There must be companies that process fruits into vacuum-packed bags, maybe shelf-stabilized with sodium benzoate? Companies I've found online export overseas with min'm orders of h...

Re: New to Lima (San Miguel area)

Good morning fellow Expats, I just arrived about 3 days ago and I'm still settling in. I'm curious if there are many meetups, or if these forums are only somewhat active? I've previously lived in Germany, Italy and Chile and in almost all cases the forums were a great way to set up a network immedi...

Re: Thinking of moving to Tarapoto. Who's out there?

I am thinking of moving to Tarapoto. Heard/read great things about it. I'll be visiting in the next few weeks to get a feel of the place, look for land/housing (buying), office space, etc. ⋅ Who is living in Tarapoto currently or has lived there previously? ⋅ What are things to ...

Re: Mercado Libre - be careful!

Enjoy your furniture. The purchase is water under the bridge at this point. It may not be what you thought you were buying and you may have overpaid, but as long as what you bought serves the purpose for which you bought it (hopefully not as an investment or to resell) - forget about your monetary ...

Re: Housing Prices

I'll admit I might be a bit biased on the subject because I have a burning hatred of Peruvian builders and handy men because of constant endless nightmares I've had with their quality of work! So I'm always going to think they are all borderline useless! Most of them are ''haga todos''. Today they ...

Re: Peru at 53 in list "The Best & Worst Places for Expats in 2016"

Usually most of the expats are retired for these sites, so they look for somewhere peaceful and cheap. Switzerland is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, but cheap it is not, so that's probably why it hasn't done so well on the list. This list doesn't suit retirees who are looking for...

Re: Immigration Changes

I was used to be a border hopper for 6 years. I always got 183 days. Last year, I went back to Peru and only got 90 days. It was OK as I was only staying for 3 weeks. If border hopping is no longer possible then getting married to a Peruvian seems to be the only way to be able to stay in Peru. Unles...

Re: taxis from Airport to Barranco?

Does anyone know the current cost in soles of a safe taxi from the airport to Barranco? Our hotel has offered to pick us up, but they will charge us $25 US which seems high. When arriving at Lima airport, I use Taxi Green. They aren't the cheapest ones but they have clean, new cars and drivers that...

Re: Peruvian Girlfriend

Looks are only part of the equation. There's a generation gap and a cultural gap that's even more important. ...and a financial gap. In May, I was in the Philippines. I saw fat, old, bold foreigners walking around with 18-19 year old model looking girls. I also saw foreigners in their 30's and 40's...

Re: Peru at 53 in list "The Best & Worst Places for Expats in 2016"

Mexico has a very large expat community; beautiful places with a low cost of living. You're focusing on the border towns and the sensationalism of the media. Mexico is a good holiday destinations. I've been to Mexico City. It has a lot of culture and history. The food is great. Plenty of cheap and ...

Re: Peru helping to Venezuela

Venezuelan can get a job because the mayority that i have met have a very good mindset : they are positive, happy, friendly, hardworker, respectful, family oriented and love their country. It is a compatible with peruvians, because we have similar values in life. They work in whatever they can get ...

Re: Housing Prices

Yeah the house prices compared to local income is just bonkers when you remember that the average income per family is just $600 to $700 per month in Lima. Lima especially is really weird compared to other places I've been to in say Europe as the distribution of wealth is usually better spread acro...

When I married my wife, she was beautiful and only 21, I was 50. 14 years and two children later, she is still young and beautiful! Okay, so it worked out for you. 1:How much will it cost, I can afford to live with relative for a bit, but I dont want to be an economic burden. It's hard to say how much it will cost as it depends of the lifestyle you would like to lead. Cost of living in Miraflores will be the same as in Chicago. Probably more expensive as impo...

Re: Peruvian Girlfriend

Teachers make a decent wage in Peru so she should be to survive on her wage unless she has several children and other relatives to support. But Peruvians who live of the minimum wage have to do that as well and they manage and don't get handouts. If you don't see yourself living in Lima, then you wi...

Qatar at the bottom? 90% of the population in Qatar is foreign. Can't be that bad then? Same for Bahrein and UAE. Switzerland at 31? It's the best country in the world. They have the highest wages in the world, lowest crime rate, best healthcare and education. Mexico at 4. Is this list for expats in...

Re: Peru helping to Venezuela

I was in a hostel in Lima and many of the long term residents were Venezuelans.
Friendly people and they all claimed to be working.

I am wondering how they can get jobs so quickly in a country with a high unemployment rate.
Are they working for far less than the Peruvian minimum wage?

Re: Arequipa - living

I was in Arequipa last year. It's a nice city. The Spanish colonial influence is visible. The buildings are well kept. I recommend the Pisco Museum. It has a cocktail bar. A bit pricy for Peru but they have the best cocktails and food. It was hot during the day and cold at night. (Good for sleeping ...
