Whether you are planning to move to Peru, or you are already living here, the Expat Peru forum is a great place to meet people and to find information. Welcome to our community!
I've bought chocolate chips before in Plaza Vea, but it has been quite a while, and I think near Christmas. I almost remember them being mini chocolate chips - but I might be confusing them with the mini-marshmallows!
Living on $500 will be extremely difficult. Price of an apartment would depend upon where it's located. Check http://urbania.clasificados.pe/alquiler/inmuebles and http://www.adondevivir.com.pe - You probably wouldn't be able to find an apartment of your own - but possibly rent a room in a home. In ...
There's a eye glasses place back behind the Wong in Aurora, Miraflores (Ca. Aria Schereiber) - and I asked them about prices on gas perm contacts. They knew what I was talking about, so maybe they've got solutions and rinse too? Sorry I can't remember the name.
That just proves the point that it's different for everyone then. I used a round trip ticket for a year past the return trip date - no one cared because the ticket was still good for exchange for a valid ticket.
We ate at Popeye's in Miraflores the other day, the first time. First, I was mightily disappointed that there was no Dirty Rice on the menu, just the red beans and rice. The chicken was great, everyone liked it - the fries too. The biscuits were very tough, which was another disappointment. But they...
As long as your ticket is round trip, you shouldn't have a problem - they don't care about the date, just the fact that you've got a ticket that can be used to leave the country. The airlines aren't worried about immigration rules as much as they're worried about being stuck having to transport you ...
I've never had a driver try to change the rate mid-ride, but I have had them start complaining about the traffic, in an attempt to make me feel bad. I learned that trick in the Bahamas, around the town square in Nassau where the ladies braid hair for tourist. They offer a low price, then half-way th...
We (well, not actually us, but long story short) ended up with the wrong eau de parfum - we wanted Kenzo Flower, ended up with Kenzo Flower Tag. I just checked the price at Ripley, it's selling here for s/.377 (approx $140. ) for the 100ml spray. We'll sell it for s/.250 (approx $100) - that covers ...
I can think of a few reasons they might not want you doing it - First off, a $1 bill isn't that easy to exchange Passing out money makes you look like you have a lot of cash, and can make you a target. Parents may be offended that you give their children money, in the "he thinks we're poor"...
I had them flying over my house yesterday afternoon - I was told that the military schools are having big end of the year/graduation ceremonies which includes showing off the equipment.
I don't know about maraschino cherries, they aren't real popular here, but things like nuts, shredded coconut, dried fruits, etc are all available by weight in the mercados.
Go to one of the Mercados, and you can buy those types of ingredients by weight - you just tell them how much you want - 100gms, 200gm, half a kilo, whatever.
I don't know if I've seen those two games specifically, but there are plenty of children's board games and toys here, even for little ones. Lots of large piece foam puzzles, stacking toys, etc for smaller children too.
I use my coupons from Plaza Vea - but you have to have the PV Visa from Interbank to qualify for them. Just saved nearly 90 soles at the store today by using my coupons.
I don't care for the market near the Ace Maestro store - it's in one of the worst parts of Surquillo and the odor is awful (just my opinion - my mother in law does a lot of shopping there, so what do I know!). Surquillo has two very nice markets. Mercado 1 is one of Gaston Acurio's favorite places. ...
Suncha, I'm sorry but that is not correct information. There are a lot of people on this forum who have been asked to show proof of return or onward travel; it's put some people in a bad situation when they were checking in at the airport. Whether Peru immigration cares or not is a moot point - the ...
Dunno, Kelly... "ethical hunting" seems like squishy ground. I doubt all "ethically" hunted animals die nice, fast clean deaths.. I'm sure that they don't all die fast clean deaths - but most ethical hunters prefer that they do and make every effort to do so - as opposed to bull...
I agree with you about giving thanks daily, and I do! I think it's really important for people to remember how fortunate they are - it makes a difference in your outlook on life. Giving thanks daily for what you've got isn't the same thing as celebrating the holiday Thanksgiving, though. It's a US s...
The "meat eating" argument doesn't apply, either. I'm not against ethical hunting or killing animals for food. I'm against unnecessarily torturing them for sport before you kill them.
I recommend AirBnB to anyone looking for a shorter term rental - it' s a little more expensive, but you don't have to worry about things like deposits etc.
The reason is so that none of the new mods have to go through the years of obscenity laced phone calls, emails and pm's that I did. Some people don't like being told that a forum has rules, and that they are required to follow those rules. Some of those people are not what the rest of us might consi...
I would say that the "new Kellys" are doing exactly what they should, seeing as this is a conversation thread rather than an information thread, and as such has a lot more leeway to meander about like a normal conversation. Since Obama already won, the original point is a bit moot, so why ...
Agreed - we just sold a 97 toyota something or other for $6000 - with a disassembled motor and no hood!
The plus is you can buy new and get a really good resale value when you leave - I'd say it depends on how long you plan to stay. And if the company also plans on shipping it home for you.
The OP wants information from flying from Peru to Cuba and the OP is German. There are no restrictions at all for him to fly from Lima to Havana. Which makes me wonder why you posted information about flights from the US in the first place. :?: Seems to me your only point with it was to refute Amer...
Yes, Jockey Plaza is quite safe. From Miraflores to there (depending on where in Miraflores) will likely be around 10 soles. It's a very large mall, comparable to malls in the US. if you're shopping for boots, you might want to try the Plaza Primavera at the corner of Angamos and Aviacion. There's a...
No, you don't pay the fine until you are "done" with your visa, in other words, leaving the country.
You CAN pay it in advance at the Immigration offices, but I'm pretty sure you have to show a plane ticket or some other sort of proof that you're leaving.

Super nice guy, made me feel very much at ease, speaks perfect English (he lived and practiced in the US for many years). Oh, and fixed my pain issues, too.
