Electricity Converters

If we bring small appliances which run on 110 when we move, should we buy converters to bring along, or are they readily available there?
Thanks again to all for your help with so many questions.

Re: Real Estate Closing Costs

Thanks so much for the quick response. That's good news since I think we are going to buy new. So our closing costs should be pretty low. We're having "fun" right now working on our Peru budget as well as figuring out what/how to ship, residency, etc etc. I'm excited about getting back th...

Real Estate Closing Costs

I'm trying to estimate what closing costs would be on an apartment purchase. I read that there is a 3% tax. Can anyone give me an idea of what other costs might be involved in a purchase?
Thanks

Re: Documents Needed for Rentista Application

Thanks, George. That's what I thought I was reading. So I guess I don't need to bother with obtaining certified birth certificates and marriage certificate. And it sounds like everything that needs to be done can be done after we arrive back in Peru.

Documents Needed for Rentista Application

My husband and I will be returning to Peru in June and will be applying for rentista status once there. I have read everything I can find about this online and am trying to make sure we have all the required documentation with us when we get there. I had planned to request certified birth certificat...

Re: Pre-Construction Apartment Purchase

Thanks to all of you for your replies. By and large you've convinced me that we probably have done the right thing by walking away from it, but I really loved the idea of being able to modify the floor plan and and wishing I could have talked myself into it. We probably won't be able to afford it or...

Pre-Construction Apartment Purchase

I'm wondering if anyone here has actually bought a pre-construction apartment. We found a place that looked perfect: the neighborhood in Miraflores that we wanted, the floor plan was great, and the price seemed very good. They were just starting: there was a bunch of heavy equipment moving around an...

You might want to check this new site from the Ministerio del Salud:

It shows what medications are available and prices.

Re: Why Do You Live Where You Live?

Hey, everybody! Thanks for all your comments and suggestions on this thread. We're still looking around and trying to decide what to do, but we've figured out that we need some outdoor space, even though we want to be in the midst of the "action," and love mIraflores, which we can't afford...

Do people normally use an attorney to handle the details of obtaining residency (rentista)? Can anyone give me an idea of approximate costs and timing involved?

We would also consider buying a couple of used bikes if we could find something cheap. That might work out better than renting if we could find something. Any ideas?

Re: Why Do You Live Where You Live?

Update: We went to see the apartment in Jesus Maria. It has a very large living room with lots of windows and a large master bedroom. It's on the second (top) floor of a building in a good neighborhood and rents for only 700 soles per month. It also has a kitchen the size of a walk-in closet with ab...

Re: New Years 2010 - You're Invited!

6:30 and the party's over! Well, it's obvious we missed a good one. Once we finished our (pre-paid) dinner at Cafe Cafe and watched the fireworks out over the shore, my head was telling me I had listened to way too much incredibly loud music. And we knew we had to move the next morning from our Dece...

Re: Why Do You Live Where You Live?

Thanks to all for your messages. This is very helpful. Yesterday we went to Magdalena because we had heard about an interesting new condo building by the ocean. It was beautiful, right on a pretty little park overlooking the ocean. But the area around it was very run down and seemed a bit dicey. We ...

Why Do You Live Where You Live?

When new to Lima, deciding where to search for an apartment can be overwhelming. Issues of cost and safety and proximity to restaurants and activities and conveniences, access to public transportation, places to walk, access to medical care, parks, etc etc. So much to consider. And there are so many...
