We have had experience with teeth cleaning, whitening, fillings and regular checkups. We have always found Dr. Caffo to be gentle in his touch, and honest with his dealings. His office isn't fancy, but it's adequate. He has basic English. The neighborhood is safe, and I have never had a problem finding supervised parking on the street. We live in Miraflores, so the only problem is the distance, as it takes us half an hour to drive there.

We have used Dr. Daniel Vizarraga Robles in Surquillo. He performed a root canal for me, and did cavity filling for my niece. It was her first major experience with a dentist (at 10 years old) and she was very scared, but Dr. Vizarraga put her very much at ease.

It is a residential area, near a large school and in my opinion is safe. We lived in this area for several years and always felt secure there. We've parked our car on the street while we were in his office with out problem, but you can always park your car at Plaza Vea about 4 blocks away (for a couple soles an hour) if you prefer. His office is an upper floor of his home, with a separate entrance - you will need to go up a couple flights of narrow, steep stairs. It's a small office, but very clean and with fairly up to date equipment.

I would like to recommend the Dentist Dr. ELSA ROSA FAJARDO. She is the best dentist I have ever know. She has studied and worked in Europe many years, but now she has her dental office in Lima - Peru.
I visited different dentists in U.S.A. and CANADA, where I live now, but nowhere have I found a dentist like Dr. Elsa Fajardo.
This recommendation is for people who are looking and are tired of trying to find a good dentist!

I have had great service from Dr. Rosario Campos in LaMolina. She is fluent in English and graduated from University of Bristol in Bristol, England UK. She is aslo an Orhtodontist.

Her prices are very reasonable.

I commented on this dental group in the forum and I apologize. I should have thought of services. I was so pleased with my completed services and I had just been reading some discussions on poor customer services and lack of Peruvian skills and work ethic I just put it in the discussion

First let me say I researched dentist in the US and here in Peru. Travel and Smile.net seemed the place to go here in Lima. Dentists in the US were extraordinarly expensive and I couldn't find anything to reccomend them over Enrique Yuen and his staff. I had a full upper dental implant, a root canal which I have to say terrified me, two crowns, and veneer. I am not finished . It was not easy but what it was, was professional and every staff member from Monica who greets you at the office to both Erique and Daniel along with very professional support staff were excellent. Most staff spoke english and the ones who did not made themselves understood. I feel some responsibility to understand something, I am in Peru for God sake!

I have not mentions the thousands of dollars that I saved at Travel and Smile because honestly it made me consider it but in all honesty this is the place I would come for dental work regardless of the cost.

I'll second sanbartoloian's opinion. The service is excellent, very modern, and matter of fact, it was better than any service I've had in the states. Everyone is fluent in English. The pricing is expensive by Peruvian standards but not by USA standards.

I have to back up both Sanbartolian and Sabaustin. Dr. Enrique Yuen and his staff are very pleasant and have more modern equipment than any other Dentist I ever went to. I do not like dental pain but Dr. Enrique pulled my Molar did a root canal and made a cap on the spot WITHOUT pain. I recommend them highly. He and most of his staff speak perfect English.

Just a follow-up, I went to my dentist here in the US, KY, Louisville for my usual cleaning and exam. The dentist who was up to 35,000 before I decided to have the work in Peru did not say much but the tech who cleaned my teeth was in a clinic who did implants and she said the work I had done would have been about 50,000 dollar here in Louisville.

It's been about 4 months now since my work was done and it is 1st time I have had a palate in 35 years. I can't begin to thank Enrique and his team. I actully sent his receptionist a Harley shirtfor Louisville just for being so nice in the process. I am looking forward to going back in Nov. Honest to God, I am looking forward to going to a dentist.

It's like being in a US dentist office which for me is super important. I've had two crowns replaced, general cleaning and whitening done with her. She's also great about being honest and telling you what is priority to get fixed and what can wait until later.

There are great recommendations here, but I thought I would add one more.
Before I arrived in Lima I contacted Dr. Patricio Quevedo from their website, http://www.vamosdental.com/index.htm, because a filling I had was cracked and I was told it needed to be replaced with an Onlay soon before further damage was done. I did not want to pay the extremely high prices of my NYC dentist without insurance, so I decided to head down to South America for a visit and to get my tooth repaired here. This was such a good decision - I saved lots of money and had a great experience.
Since I began inquiring with the dental practice, Dr. Patricio has been very responsive, helpful and he speaks/writes English well, I later learned he also speaks French. He was always very honest about pricing and my options.
Once I arrived for my treatment, the service was excellent...better than any service I had received in the US. Additionally, he was able to simply replace the filling and avoid the more costly Onlay treatment. The pricing is much more affordable than treatments in the US, but the fact that he offered a less expensive, but equally effective treatment really impressed me. Additionally, he provided advice about cavities I had and if they needed to be treated now or could wait a while.

I have been coming to Peru for several years now and have seen 4 different dentists all highly recommended on this list and can say Peru Dental is the best dental office I have been to. If you go you will see for yourself. First, there is a no pressure and non nagging approach with I appreciated as well as immediate response back when I initially emailed for prices. They were extremely professional, and efficient from start to finish from making the appt, to the office visit/ consultation and work. The office was immaculate, perfectly clean, modern, up to date. even more than any US dentist office I have been too. I expected to have the dentist list a number of other problems and was a little paranoid about having them squeeze extra services in, but they were very honest, up front. I even considered getting cosmetic things done but they insisted it really wasnt necessary even though they would financially benefit from it! Very honest doctors! They even sent all my records to me within a few hours without any delays.

Suddenly a large piece (old filling) of one of my front teeth came loose!!

The prospect to go out with a new friend (and she has a really wonderfull set of teeth) with a mouth, unable to smile without showing a large hole was just horrible.

As always in such circumstances I start searching the ExpatPeru Forum to find a dentist in Miraflores recommended by some of you.

From the reviews I selected Dr. Carlos Cueva and called him around nine. Without any hesitation he made an appointment for 12.00hrs.
When I came a little bit before 12, he already was there and received me very friendly.
To make a long story short: he replaced the filling in a very efficient and qualified way and now I'm smiling again and my weekend saved!

I'd like to second (or third, or fourth....) the recommendations given for Peru Dental. After deciding to relocate to Peru from the states, it was an easy decision to get my (much neglected) dental work done in Peru, taking advantage of the price differences.

After much research I decided on Peru Dental. I was looking for a dentist with modern facilities and where my (then) lacking Spanish wouldn't be a barrier to communicating my needs. My first contact was with (English speaking) office manager Lloyd, who clearly and promptly answered all of my questions and helped arrange my travel plans. After my initial consultation with Dr. Yuen (who, along with the other doctors, speaks flawless English) we created a treatment plan. Being that several old metal fillings from childhood were falling out, I knew I was going to need extensive work, thinking I was looking at several dental implants. Turns out I only needed one implant. Never once did I feel pressure to 'upgrade' or that I was being sold services I didn't need. When I expressed a desire to save a few Soles, Lloyd and Dr. Yuen worked with me to come up with a revised treatment plan (I wound up changing my mind and sticking to the original plan).

After 11 porcelain, 3D CAD/CAM restorations, periodontal work, 3 root canals, and surgery for a crown over implant, I experienced no pain. The worse part was a slight discomfort when receiving post-surgery stitches. Lloyd, and all four doctors who treated me, clearly explained everything, set my mind at ease, and provided pain free treatment. The entire staff, from the receptionist, dental assistants, Lloyd, and the doctors, are helpful and professional. In a country not known for exemplary customer service, Peru Dental offered better customer service than I received from the last dentist I saw in the states where it took months for my initial consultation and would have taken another few months to begin treatment.

I suddenly find myself having to return to Lima from Arequipa on short notice and hoped to schedule my final appointment for the crown over implant at the same time. Lloyd was very helpful in squeezing me in on such short notice, even though they are very busy due to a recent television feature on Peru Dental. I usually only write reviews when I have had a bad experience, but Peru Dental made what would normally be dread inducing, into an overall positive experience; I can't recommend Peru Dental enough.

Yes, I can recommend an excellent Dental Clinic in Lima - it is The Dental Design Clinic. I had a near full mouth reconstruction at the clinic and I am extremely happy with the results. The same treatment would have cost six times more in Australia. The clinic is in Miraflores, so very convenient for visitors and most expats. I had a great experience with Dr. Giselle Del Carpio Robles. Her clinic is in Surco (about a 12/s taxi ride from Miraflores). I'm a total wimp when it comes to dental pain, so Dr.Robles numbed me to the cleaning.

The prices she charges are Peruvian prices, not "gringo prices". She speaks English very well and has studied in USA.

My last dental experience in Peru was awful, so I was really nervous about going back to the dentist, but am so glad that I went to her clinic.

Went to a festival here in Peru and I decided to buy some Peruvian lollipops from the store for the whole family to enjoy as we watched the cultural dancing. I bit into my lollipop and my white filling came out. Really didnt like going around with a big chip in my teeth especially because I was planning on meeting up with some friends at the bar.
Decided to give Dr.Carlos Cueva a call! He was very nice and spoke perfect english. He had even better service than our dentist in the US and at a much cheaper price. Called him and he scheduled me an appointmnet for later in the day. Came in got my fillings done and the dental office was family friendly as well! As I got my fillings done, my children watched TV while my wife read the american magazines .

I definitely echo all of the prior posts on this forum that have recommended Peru Dental (http://www.perudental.com). They have a beautiful clinic with state of the art equipment, and their facilities are only matched by their excellent service. I have now had two experiences with them (once for myself and once with a child), and I honestly cannot recommend them enough.

I had to have all four of my wisdom teeth removed, and despite my nerves the procedure was as painless as possible. All of the doctors took ample time to explain what work needed to be done, what to expect, and how they were going to do it. Additionally, Lloyd was a wonderful help throughout the entire process and follow up. He was quick to communicate and respond over email with any question that I had (an added plus that he is a native English speaker). I am generally a person who avoids the dentist at all costs, but Peru Dental definitely helped me to feel at ease.

The child that we brought was an incredibly difficult case. He needed multiple fillings, crowns, reconstructions, etc. On top of that he is incredibly afraid of needles, and we had never successfully gotten him to participate in a dental procedure until now. The pediatric dentist and the rest of the team were so warm and understanding! I couldn't believe that without much issue, he voluntarily sat in the dental chair for almost two straight days while they patiently helped to restore his smile. We are so thankful to Peru Dental for their professional service, and we are happy to see how this child has a restored sense of self esteem with a new smile!

I saw Dr Eduardo Montenegro Soria for a cleaning last week. It was the most careless, thoughtless work I've ever had done on my mouth. He did a cleaning in literally a little over ten minutes with no polishing. He jabbed the electric cleaning implement in my gums a number of times, even after I asked him to please be more careful. My gums still hurt a week later. I wouldn't let him near my mouth and I think it would be insane to see him and have someone who did a job like that do work like filling a cavity or doing something that needs care and attention.

I didn't have a good experience with Dr. Sylvia Pflucker and Smiles Peru. The front desk staff didn't speak English and I thought they would. There was time for a video with Larry King explaining dental tourism, and a sales pitch for a lot of dental work including a filling that my previous dentist didn't see and three dentists after haven't seen, but they said there wasn't time for a cleaning, which was one of the main reasons I went there. They finally agreed to do the cleaning and it was quick and very poor work. The second worst cleaning I've had (see Soria review). My dentist in the states practices conservative dentistry. I had some challenges with my gums and they did some education and he said he'd monitor how I was doing and since it's been fine he's good with it. Dr. Pflucker immediately wanted to do a procedure. It's easy to look at a bunch of dental work and think I'll be saving money in Peru, but if I don't need the work I'm not saving money. I prefer my dentist who treats conservatively. The office also smelled very strongly of some kind of cleaner.

I chose not to go with Peru Dental. It was 240 Soles for the cleaning and "basic check up", and the full diagnosis and 3D exrays were another 396 Soles, or 634 Soles, which is a LOT of money in Peru, and much, much higher than I've heard other dentists charge. I was confused with what the basic check up was as they needed the full diagnosis to be able to treat. I also needed to come into the office to find out what kind of materials they use for fillings. Historically when things get too complicated or the dental work is way higher than other places it doesn't end well. I find a correlation between the cost of the place and how much dentistry the are looking to sell (a term I heard a dentist use in his office once). There's another expat site with a lot of locals and no one has mentioned Peru Dental. Sometimes when there's many people recommending a dentist, especially when their not recommended on the other local site, I get curious if the dentist is driving traffic to the site.

I know a very affordable dentist in Surco that speaks perfect English. I think I paid 60 soles for a cleaning, and she did several affordable fillings for my mother (and informed my mother that some other expensive work that a dentist in the US had recommended was really not necessary).

It is very affordable because she's still waiting her final certification, so she's not legally allowed to advertise yet. But she is capable of all basic dental procedures and is already taking more advanced training. Her office has all new equipment and is very nice even by US standards.

I can't guarantee she'll actually want the extra work, but I can pass on the contact info of anyone who PMs me.

The only differences I noticed from US dentists are (1) no free tooth brush (2) no flossing, so do yourself a favor and floss before you go in and (3) you get the full attention of an actual dentist as there usually is no assistant (though she did make special arrangements to have one when my young daughter needed to have her gums opened to let the upper incisors come down). The lack of a dental assistant was the big surprise for me. In the US I'm used to everything being done by an assistant and then the dentist just shows up for a 30 second review.

I was having some minor issues with gum bleeding. I stopped by Dr. Soria's office late one afternoon last week thinking I would set an appointment for the future. I filled out a very brief health history form and he took me back to the treatment area, did a quick examination and set me up with the hygienist who did the necessary cleaning right then. Dr. Soria came back, checked her work and I was done! He and his staff are very nice. It may not be the most beautiful office in the world but it certainly works for me!

Recently, however, they went far beyond the call of duty.

I would like to voice my deep gratitude to Peru Dental, especially noting the lengths to which Enrique and Lloyd went to help my wife out when we were out of country. Barbara had some tooth pain, which concerned her as she was returning to Lima for only a few days before heading up to the U.S. to recruit new teachers for Colegio Roosevelt.

This occurred over the New Year’s holiday, and the office was closed. However, Lloyd responded immediately by email, and consulted several times with Enrique, who was in the U.S. They gave sound and detailed advice and maintained steady contact with us.

They saved Barbara from having to undergo two unnecessary root canals on either side of her “beautifully executed implant,” as the Colombian dentist described it. As it turned out, she had a bad cold, and the swelling was causing some discomfort. It took care of itself as Barbara recovered from her cold. We were given correct, prompt advice in communication that spanned Peru, Colombia and the U.S. I could not be more grateful, and I advocate for Peru Dental because they pride themselves in their mastery of integrating the highest level of professional technology with the more important human touch.

I went to different dentists years ago in Peru, some in Miraflores, some in Huaraz, I paid 50 soles = about $17 both times.

Others quoted prices in the above thread, for cleaning, of 60 soles = about $20, which is a good price. 240 soles about $80, at Peru Dental, for a cleaning is outrageously too high. You can find for that price in the states!

Everyone should be including names of dentists, locations, prices for the various services in addition to the reviews of the dentists, as this would be helpful to others for comparison purposes.

Historically when things get too complicated or the dental work is way higher than other places it doesn't end well. My treatment was Awesome. Hi my name is Michael Louis I went for fillings and I had a amazing job. Is a very good, I'm so happy after go there. Dr. Cueva give me a very good service, he gives dedication for each part of my teeth, also the attention was nice and kind. Every tools are clean and the equipment is new high tech. My family goes to Dr. Raul Ordoñes in Salamanca which is near La Molina, San Borja area.

I had two root canals and two dental implants and one daughter had 7 cavities fixed. At first I tried dentists from my insurance, Maison de Sainte, but their prices were astronomical and I was treated like a money machine and the work was rushed so they could over charge.

His specialty is general dentistry, root canals, and implants.
I have been going to this dentist for three years.
His prices are very reasonable. I payed $ 1200 for two dental implants with the crowns included. Romandent in San Isidro wanted $2400. Dr. Ordoñes is in Salamanca, where prices are
lower then Miraflores, Surco, Molina, San Borja, Monterrico, and San Isidro.

He is a dental surgeon registered with the "Colegio de Odontologos de Peru" and he is accomodating in setting appointments.
He speaks some English; His two daughters that are Dental school students speak English.

Just because he has a new office & sanitary surroundings, doesn't mean he knows what he is doing.

I went to a dentist recommended by a gf of an American expat; he extracted 4 teeth @ $100 each.
NEVER TOOK EX-RAYS! When my normal dentist returned from a vacation; he showed me my x-rays.
There were NO ISSUES with any of the teeth extracted!

Filed a complaint with INDECOPI & was threatened with having my throat cut - in the presence of the investigator!
INDECOPI was apparently influenced by his family - who have a lot of money & connections in San Isidro & Lima.
Be careful, "we are not in Kansas anymore".

Wow that's some story. But it is not helping anyone here if we do not know the name of your mafia dentist.

I must admit that in Huanuco there are zero dentists that specialize in ex-pat care (<10 expats in Huanuco). But I finally found a good dentist. She has a shared practise in the es-salud hospital and she charges me off the books. USD 75 for emergency extraction (infected wisdom tooth). Really nice job. No English speaker though. Even the chief surgeon of the hospital does not speak a word of English.

just like with anything here, ask first and make sure you understand exactly what they are proposing first before agreeing to anything, and especially to a tooth extraction. If _fill in blank their occupation_ in peru goes for more than 2-3 words in explanation of the service they intend to provide, I make sure I understand what is it they plan on doing before agreeing.
