Blackberry SIM card/plan from Claro for non-resident

Postby Intralingo » Fri Oct 22, 2010 10:21 am

Hi everyone,

I'm a Canadian, former resident of Peru from 1993-2000, returning after a few years to do some travelling, visit friends, etc. I'll be bringing my Blackberry with me and have already confirmed that it has the right bands to work on the Peruvian network. I see that Claro sells decently priced packages, but am wondering:

* As a non-resident, can I buy a SIM card?
* Can I get a plan for only a month or two?

Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Lisa

Hi Lisa. You can most certainly get a SIM card from Claro as a non-resident. I am assuming your Blackberry uses the same type of SIM card as a regular cellular phone. You most likely will not be able to get a post-pay plan, at least not at first. You'll go with prepay, in which you buy credits and use them as you go. Prepaid cellular is the most expensive of all.

Excellent! Thanks for the confirmation...
Pre-paid will be fine -- even if it is more expensive -- since we'll only be here for six weeks this time.
Saludos,
Lisa

Intralingo,

Don't know if you know that your blackberry has to be unlocked (that means that can work with any provider) if not and since you are returning to Canada, I will recommend that your provider in Canada? unlock your Blackberry.

My 5 cents...

Yes, JChambilla, my Blackberry will be unlocked and yes, Fanning, according to the Claro site I think I can expect to pay about S/100.
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts!
