Where to find Art stores that print art copies in Lima

I need to find good art store sources for getting prints of my art work. Also looking for sources that do giclee printing. I'm hoping that there some artists on Expatperu that may have info.

No, not offset printing. A electronic copy machine. I supply a thumb drive with a photo of the art work and they upload the photo, via a computer, to the copier for small size copies . A Giclee is a copymachine that produces high quality copies on paper or canvas and in larger sizes also using a computer to upload the photo file of the art work.

There's a good shop at the top back of Chacarilla with reasonable prices (materials costing roughly twice what they would in US for example). Enter the mall from the last door on Caminos del Inca before Plaza Vea, it's on the second or third level on the right.

I can get the name and tienda number for you one of these coming days if you need it, I can't find it now.

I may have miss led the readers of my subject. I don't want to buy a printer I'm looking services of an art store that can make full color reproductions of my art, working from a jpg, or psd file. The resolution of the files are 300dpi.

Full color if my painting is in color Black and White if B&W. I can output a jpg,or psd files of the art work. The sizes can vary from 60x40 inches to 8x10 inches. Quantities from 1 to many. The resolution of the photos 300dpi to 600dpi. Some on paper and canvas (it will vary).

I know giclee is done in Peru, just not where. Fortunately, I am meeting with my printer tomorrow and I will have him find out and I will get back to you.

I used to sell Giclee prints to hotels and through ebay back in the states and was surprised at how hard they are to find here, but there are a few shops.

Av. Wilson is today Av. Garcilaso de la Vega. The place where you find all the Computer shops and printers. Its behind the Sheraton Hotel / Real Plaza.

Many thanks! We went this week to the big places on Wilson. It's a very interesting place - where they print mostly gigantic banners and such on vinyl material. We didn't find any place specializing in Giclee or art prints, but did find a place which made us a good color print of one of Gene's paintings. I think it's an excellent reproduction and the artist seems satisfied with it also. We will also try the place on Caminos del Inca and keep looking around, but I think this place will serve the necessary purpose if nothing better is found. As always, the people on this forum are amazingly helpful. Thank you.

I'm stopping by my Giclee guys tomorrow for some quotes. I had a price sheet somewhere but I don't know where it is, I'll ask for another one and post some prices. They don't only do Giclee, they print on all kinds of expensive imported paper with all kinds of expensive imported inks. Not cheap, but it's very high quality.

Can't type them all, but standard photo paper (cm)

10x15 = S/. 3
15x20 = S/. 6
20x25 = S/. 10
...
50x60 = S/. 68
...
100x100 = S/. 180
110 x 165 = S/. 325


Then they have all the fancy papers that are sold in lineal metres of two widths, 60cm and 110cm

The paper types are:
Back Light
Clear Film
Double Weight
Ultra Smooth
Bamboo
Photo Rag - William
Photo Rag - Baryta
Lienzo Satin
Lienzo Mata

The last two are the canvas type papers people like to call "giclee", one is shiny, one is not. The other types of paper are perfect for printing photos as if for a gallery.

As said, they are sold in lineal metres, so if you want 1.1m x 1.1, in say, Lienzo Mate that is S/.350
at 0.60x0.60 it is S/.190. At, say 2.2 x 1 it would be S/.700.

Stuart: Thank you. We actually finally got out there this afternoon. The artist had a print made to check out their quality. They were very helpful. They have an excellent selection of papers at what seem to me totally outrageous prices. The artist is very happy with them. Thus mission accomplished. I suggested to him that he should be asking all the artists around town, the park, etc, where they get prints made.

Prices in Peru are my newest and latest thing that drives me crazy!

The prices are outrageous, possibly as much as for times what they might be in the US. The problem is the outrageous amount of tax that has to be paid on imports (the paper and the ink, not to mention the printers), plus taxes on the resale, plus govt. mandated fees such as CTS and EsSalud for whoever works there. Small price to pay though for all these wonderful public services we enjoy, right?? The last time I heard of a crime being committed, or so a pot-hole in the street, or saw a sick poor person who couldn't get subsidized medicine must have been, what, some time in the early 90s.

Then there's the USD$1500 pm (last time I checked) rent on that little place. Property prices and rents are also outrageous. Next we add the 10% per year inflation...

Just wanted to update this thread. Flashlab is still in business and doing good work. My wife had several old pictures in various sizes and conditions. They digitized 8 of them, modified, and made 4 copies of each in 13 x 18 for a total cost of 206 soles. They turned out very nice.
