Places to Eat Great Salads

Postby edgeclinger » Tue Jan 01, 2013 1:55 pm

So after all the holiday overeating, I think I'm starting to crave salads!
Anybody know of places to get great salads - other than the obvious of fixing them at home?
I know I've been in places that offered good salads in the past, but can't remember where they were now.

Lauris,

You can get great salads at San Antonio or Don Mamino.

Actually, there is a San Antonio's hidden in Magdalena. I say hidden because it is quite hard to find if you're going there for the first time. It is close to San Isidro and walking distance from the Cricket Club.

You'll find it on Calle Roca de Vergallo 201. You'll have too ''Google Maps'' it if you're not familiar.

Enjoy.

There is a new restaurant on 28 de Julio and Larco called Design Your Own Salads. It looks pretty delicious, but I have yet to try it.

I'll second San Antonio, but you may also check out Vivaldino's, they have some unique and quite tasty salads though they aren't on the cheap side.

You might see in another thread that I once had a bad experience with San Antonio. I had their tuna salad as did my partner and we were sicker than dogs.

However, we have been eating regularly at San Antonio and consider that a freak incident, and one they responded to very positively. They told us that they threw out all the tuna at all their restaurants even though it was in date, got fresh product and offered us free food.

I still am loyal to San Antonio and go to the one in Magdalena.

Not the cheapest, about 18-20 soles for a salad, but uhhfffff. que rico.

Delicass sells nice salads. It's a chain that has several places in Lima.

I've see one at Plaza San Miguel and one at Jockey Plaza. The also sell nice pastries.

Also try any of the Tanta's Restaurants in Lima ... pretty darn good salads. There's one in Jokey Plaza and one or two in Miraflores.

Salads are about the only kind of gringo food I miss in Peru. The only place I have found (to my surprise!) to get them is Bembos (altho they often do not have them on the menu board).

Doesn't McDonalds have salads. In Europe they do.

Burger King, McDonalds and Bembos all 3 have salads.

So does Fridays, Chile´s and Tony Roma´s

I still find the best at San Antonio.

I would have to agree with San Antonio - wonderful salads! Il Dolce Capriccio, on Av. Dos de Mayo in Miraflores also make good salads. I also love the salad in Rincon Gaucho, a meat/BBQ restaurant on the road into Barranco from Miraflores. It's so good!!

I love the salads at Tanta...they are huge and fill you up. Also Pardos has pretty good salads! Don Mamino has good ones that are similar to San Antonio's. And last but not least La Gran Fruta has three new ones that are quite good. :)

salads in San Antonio are not a way to lose weight. they're gigantic, and usually have a mayo-based dressing.

I'm hardly an expert on food in Peru.... but I have eaten plenty of salads in both San Antonio and in Don Mamino. To me, Don Mamino wins hands down. I go to the restaurants in La Molina.

Thanks for all the great feedback. All of these places sound worth checking out. I ate at "Design Your Own Salad" on 28 de Julio with some friends on Friday. The salads were good. The variety of ingredients was excellent. The location was good, too. Table service would have added to our enjoyment of the experience, as would have real plates (instead of the Plaza Vea style plastic to-go boxes) and napkins. Interestingly we noticed as we were leaving that some people at another table had been given real plates; apparently one has to ask for them. We enjoyed our salads and would go again.

I've tried to go to the design your salad place three times and it looks like they closed or They must have the worst business hours since we tried to go at lunch and dinner times.

if you ever go to pizza hut, try one of their salads. i cant just sit down and eat a salad by itself, so i get my salad intake with pizza :D
every place has it's own spirit. you just need to tune into it.
