vacation stays in northern peru

Planning on vacationing in March in Northern Peru. Love to get input on places that folks have really enjoyed staying and the reasons why (or why not...). I've been to Mancora, Pocitas, Punta Sal and Zorritos.

Have You been to Vichayito ?.
It is located in the district of Los Organos, Piura. Not so far from Mancora but this beach is quiet. I liked it a lot I just went to relax not so adventurous to do canopy . But I will next time.

I stayed in Los cocos de vichayito, great service, delicious food is not cheap neither expensive.
I had a great time, the place is beautiful . Not crowded and noisy like mancora.

Tarapoto is much nicer and very clean. And prices are democratic in Tarapoto. Tarapoto is full of first class dining restaurants and top class cocktail establisments.

Iquitos is very dirty and very expensive. Especially for gringos.

I agree, but i was specifically asking Calygirl if she has ever been to the Amazonas region in northern Peru.

Caliguy/ChiChi: Quite honestly, the Amazon region (Iquitos, Pucallpa) was one of my least favorite places I've traveled in Peru. On the other hand, Tarapoto was one of my most favorite places and I'd definitely consider returning. Right now, however, I want to spend time on the beaches in Northern Peru, I love it there, out of all the beaches I've visited here in Peru, including Santa Maria, Asia, San Bartolo, Pucusana.

And the food, yum.

I think the confusion came because you said 'Northern Peru' without specifying the beaches - which is why Caliguy asked if you'd visited Iquitos, thinking it would be a helpful suggestion.


Have you been to see the manglares swamps in Tumbes?

Yes, I can see the confusion now. Last year we went to the manglares swamps in Tumbes, it was a fun trip. We also went to mineral baths nearby Zorritos at Hervideros, what an experience that was. Not only the mineral baths, but our mototaxi driver got lost returning and we got caught in the mud several times, as it had poured rain the night before.
