Where to eat in Miraflores

I am returning to Peru for a few weeks and was wondering if anybody could tell me where to eat. I know and have eaten at all the popular places. But where is the little hole in the wall restaurants are that have good food at good prices.

The Mercado #1 - just north of the corner of Ricardo Palma/Paseo de la Republica, on the east side. The street in front of the market is pedestrian only and is packed with little menus and cevicherias. Mostly lunch. Prices from around 6 soles and up. We've tried quite a few of them, and they've all been pretty good.

In Miraflores, on Av. Jose Galvez there is a little place called "El RIncon de Bigote". It's a seafood place, about a block before the Christmas Store, on the right hand side of the street (if you're walking the same way as the cars). It's tiny, and from 12:45pm onwards, there is a massive queue to get in. He's known for clams, which he makes with mushrooms, garlic, onions, aji, choclo and lemon. Delicious, and at 4 soles each a bargain! They're quite big.

All other food items are good, but definitely try the clams!

My husband and I eat at several neighborhood "menu's" here in Miraflores every day, except for our weekend spurgles at other restaurants. The prices at these vary widely. Here's some of our spots:
Cherry on Larco between San Martin and Veinte Ocho de Julio: Prices between 10 to 12 soles, decent food, somewhat crowded at lunchtime, seems to be a local neighborhood favorite.
Cafe Lucuma on Tarata, 12 to 15 soles, similar to above.
Several others on Tarata, including Cafe Tarata, Mama Olla's, Cafe La Paz, prices somewhat higher, 20 to 22 soles, but fairly good quality food and the atmosphere is nicer.
Salsa Restaurant in the Fiesta Hotel has a menu from 12:30 to 4 pm, 22 soles. Good quality, nice atmosphere, killer desserts.
Also, the two restaurant next to Parque Kennedy (The larger Cafe La Paz and Parquetito) has lunchtime menu's priced at 22 soles. Typically two choices of appetizers and main dish. Great location.
Il Capppucino on Manuel Bonilla, right off Larco, across from Parque Kennedy. Lunchtime menu of 21.50 soles, good selection of items. Haven't eaten there as yet, but will get there eventually.
Would not recommend any of the places on San Martin, between Larco and Colon. There are several there, service and quality lacking for the most part.

I have 3 spots to suggest in Miraflores (not too expensive):

1. El Sillar (arequipean food): calle Atahualpa 229 (near the Ovalo Miraflores). Good food but service is a bit slow
2. Vladys: fresh fruit juices, bakery, sandwiches, ice-cream, soups, meat, etc. Calle Junin corner with Paseo de la Republica. Very nice place (big open space downstairs)
3. A bit more expensive (but not that much) but really excellent food and service is the chifa Madam Tusan: avenida Santa Cruz (near ovalo Gutierrez).

I prefer the little "hole-in-the-wall" places, as long as they are CLEAN!
After going there a few times - EVERYONE KNOWS YOUR NAME (as per the old US - TV show Cheers).
They don't charge you extra for an extra glass of the beverage-of-the-day; other places get "upset".

I like mingling with the owners & tip the waitresses - this gets their ATTENTION (even tho they are probably family); they will remember you with a 2-3 soles tip on a 10-12 soles meal!!! I used to be a waiter in high school - it is not easy being "up-beat" with a busy crowd & the occasional "pain in the butt".

Whenever we're in Lima we always eat at El Punto Azul on the corner of San Martin and Avenida Alcanfores in Miraflores. They close early, around 5pm and it's necessary to arrive early and take a number. About 1/2 wait. Great seafood and traditional Peruvian dishes. About 20 - 30 soles/plate.

While not really a "hole in the wall" place, Punto Azul is good. Eaten there several times, last time was yesterday. Keep in mind that their main plates are big, easily enough food for two people, especially if getting an order of ceviche as well. There are also two other places on the same street, Embarcadero 41 and Pez On.

I always have lunch at Punta Sol for some of the best ceviche in town. If you are going on a weekend though get there early or expect a wait for a table, it is very popular with locals. It is only open for a few hours in the afternoon. Not a place for dinner. I've been going there for 5 years and it never disappoints. A plate of ceviche will cost about S/. 35

A favorite of mine in Miraflores is the parilla almost on the corner of La Paz and Schell called Che Santiago near Maria Angola Theatre. A very nice woman from Mendoza is the owner and almost always there. I think she lives in the neighborhood. It may seem a bit pricey for a parilla but this is the high rent district too. Great steaks and chorizos that are brought to your table on the standard metal grill. It has a very local atmosphere and informal with a nice covered deck that is generally open.

Che Santiago seems to be closed. Do you have any information?

When did you notice the restaurant was closed? It is always closed on Sunday. Perhaps, because of the election they closed this past weekend as they do offer wine and beer with dinner. I ate there in late January so hope that is the reason.

Atlantic City Casino has a nice restaurant on the first level that has a menu for 22 soles that changes daily. Nice atmosphere, comfortable, and good quality food. Today we had a salad, bistek apanado, penne with pesto (peruvian style pesto), and a small dessert and drink. They also have a la carte items.
